GAME RECAP

Michael Jordan scored 18 of his 29 points in the second half and grabbed 17 rebounds, leading the Chicago Bulls to their seventh straight win against the Orlando Magic, 94-81.

Chicago led 50-41 early in the third quarter when Jordan's bucket sparked an 8-2 spurt. The Bulls took their biggest lead at 71-51 with 4:16 left on a free throw by Jason Caffey, but Orlando finished the period with a 15-7 run.

Penny Hardaway, who scored 20 points, hit a three-pointer to pull the Magic within 78-72 with 8:45 to play. But Jordan had two baskets in a 10-2 spurt and Steve Kerr's 21-foot jumper gave Chicago an 88-74 lead with 5:57 to go. Orlando got no closer than 11 points thereafter.

"I had a better feel on the court tonight offensively," said Jordan, who shot 12-of-39 in his last game. "I think you will see us being a better team when we continuously find our system and our chemistry over the next 10 or 15 games."

"Chicago did what they had to do tonight to win the game. They ran their offense well," Magic coach Chuck Daly said. "They came out in the second half, got good looks at the basket and put the game out of reach."

Toni Kukoc scored 14 points for the Bulls (3-1), who have won three straight games after opening the season with a loss in Boston.

Rony Seikaly collected 34 points and 13 rebounds for the Magic (1-3), who have lost their last four games against the Bulls by at least 11 points. Including a four-game sweep in the 1996 Eastern Conference finals, Orlando has not beaten Chicago since November 14th, 1995, a span of 11 games.

"Yeah, I had a good performance, but that wasn't enough for us," Seikaly said. "We need to find a way to involve more of our players in the offense. Defensively, we're not playing as a unit, either."

Kerr's three-pointer capped a 7-0 spurt in the second period that gave the Bulls a 41-30 lead with 3:58 left. Dennis Rodman, who played just 24 minutes off the bench, pulled down all seven of his rebounds in the second quarter, leading Chicago to a 46-36 halftime edge.

Rodman and Caffey helped shut down Orlando starting forwards Nick Anderson and Horace Grant. Anderson missed all eight of his shots and scored just one point, while Grant was 1-of-3 for two points.

"Somehow we need to get Nick and Horace involved on both sides of the ball," Seikaly said. "We have new players and a new coach, so it's gonna take a little time to get going."

"Orlando did not look in sync tonight," Bulls coach Phil Jackson said. "Some of their players looked bewildered on the court. Chuck Daly is a good coach, one of the best, I'm sure he'll get them going."

Seikaly scored Orlando's first six points in the third quarter and finished the period with 17, but the Bulls still took a 78-66 lead into the final session.

Chicago, which shot 48 percent (38-for-79) from the field, had 27 assists compared to just nine for Orlando.

"I thought our offense had good movement tonight," Jackson said. "The reason for it was our people moved without the ball, hit their positions and made good cuts to the basket."

Hardaway connected on just 6-of-19 shots as the Magic shot 34 percent (25-for-73).

"We're just not shooting the ball well. We're missing free throws and open shots," Daly said. "I don't have an answer for it. I've never had a team that's struggled offensively like this."

The Magic played without starting point guard Derek Harper, who suffered a bruised right quadricep in Tuesday's 110-76 loss at Milwaukee. His replacement, Mark Price, had just seven points and one assist in 27 minutes.
