GAME RECAP

Shareef Abdur-Rahim scored 24 points and the Vancouver Grizzlies held the Milwaukee Bucks to a franchise low-tying eight points in the fourth quarter in a 109-94 victory.

Otis Thorpe scored 19 points and Sam Mack added 13 in his first start with the Grizzlies. Despite playing without injured starters Bryant Reeves and Anthony Peeler, Vancouver posted its first three-game home winning streak in franchise history.

Milwaukee took a one-point lead into the fourth quarter, but matched the team record for offensive futility in a period, set on two occasions last season against the Atlanta Hawks. The Grizzlies also matched a club record by allowing just eight points.

Terrell Brandon had 22 points and 13 assists for the Bucks, who fell to 1-2 on their four-game road trip, which ends Sunday at Seattle.

"When you scare eight points in a quarter, you're not giving yourself much of a chance to win," Brandon said. "Hopefully we will learn from it and it's not going to happen too many times in this league and especially on our team."

Milwaukee opened the fourth quarter with a bucket by Ervin Johnson to extend its lead to 88-85 with 11:40 to play. But consecutive jumpers by Blue Edwards -- who scored half of his 12 points in the final period -- started a 12-0 burst, which Pete Chilcutt capped with a jumper to give the Grizzlies a 97-88 lead with 7:03 remaining.

Armon Gilliam hit a pair of free throws for Milwaukee's first points in five minutes. But Abdur-Rahim and Chilcutt each hit free throws to push the lead up to 99-90 with 5:09 to go.

The Bucks could only get as close as 101-92 on Brandon's jumper with 2:50 left. Thorpe tipped in a miss with 2:23 to go and Abdur-Rahim hit four free throws in the final 75 seconds as the Grizzlies led by at least 11 points the rest of the way.

"We had two key guys out, Country and AP, so I told the team that everyone who stepped out was great and contributed in a big way," Vancouver coach Brian Hill said. "We just got a great job from everybody off the bench. Our energy level was up in the second half and we played a whole lot better."

The game was tied, 42-42, midway through the second quarter before Milwaukee's Ray Allen sparked a 14-0 spurt. His jumper with 6:28 left in the half ignited the run and he added four more points as the Bucks opened a 56-42 advantage on Michael Curry's dunk with four minutes remaining in the period. Milwaukee led 63-61 at halftime after shooting an unconscious 71 percent (27-of-38).

Vancouver used a 10-0 spurt over a four-minute span in the third quarter to open a 77-70 lead on Abdur-Rahim's basket with 5:52 left in the period. But the Bucks answered with an 8-0 spurt behind four points apiece from Johnson and Glenn Robinson, whose jumper with 3:37 to play in the quarter gave Milwaukee a 78-77 lead.

"The first half, their jump shooters went out and came off repeatedly with open jump shots," Edwards said. "We knew their big three were going to be the scorers but we didn't contest their shots. They continued to go to it and the second half we got a little bit close to them. That made them drive a bit, make extra passes and I think our defense got us back into the game."

Rookie Antonio Daniels had 12 points and Chilcutt finished with seven for the Grizzlies, who shot 53 percent (41-of-77) from the field. Reeves has a sprained ankle and Peeler is bothered by a sore knee.

Allen netted 20 points and Robinson and Johnson each had 15 for the Bucks, who shot 54 percent (37-of-69).
