GAME RECAP

Bo Outlaw and Gerald Wilkins had respective season highs of 24 and 23 points as the Orlando Magic won for the fourth time in five games with a 102-91 victory over the Washington Wizards, who remained winless at home.

Outlaw also grabbed 13 rebounds and Derek Strong recorded 15 points and 12 rebounds as the Magic placed six players in double figures in scoring. Horace Grant tallied 13 points and Nick Anderson added 10 for Orlando, which had lost its five previous meetings with Washington.

"I'm not the best shooter but if I'm open it's nice to see they have confidence in me to shoot the ball," said Outlaw. "We really stepped up these last two nights, especially with people hurt. This was a whole team victory tonight."

"I've been around for a long time and this might have been the most courageous effort that I've seen," said Orlando coach Chuck Daly. "It was a heckuva win. We didn't shoot well but we played good defense. Both teams had people out but the bottom line is that we won."

Rod Strickland scored a season-high 24 points and handed out nine assists for the Wizards, who fell to 0-3 at home. Tracy Murray had a season-high 23 points and Calbert Cheaney matched his season best with 19.

"We needed to get some more offense from somehwere tonight, we just didn't," Strickland said. "I think it was a tough game both ways with no big guns in there at all. We haven't been getting any calls lately. I don't know what it is but it's very frustrating. We're not getting respect, we didn't have hardly any momentum the whole game and just plain-out didn't shoot the ball."

Both teams were missing key starters. Washington forwards Chris Webber and Juwan Howard both sat out with back spasms. Orlando point guard Penny Hardaway missed his second straight game with tendinitis in his left knee and center Rony Seikaly sat out with a strained neck.

Murray's running jumper with 19 seconds left in the second quarter gave the Wizards a 47-46 edge at halftime. Washington never had the lead in the third quarter but the game was tied several times, the final one at 57-57 on Cheaney's jumper with 3:44 to go. Strong scored four points in the 8-0 spurt that was capped by Armstrong's driving layup for a 65-57 advantage with 2:43 to go.

The Wizards managed to close to 80-77 when Cheaney made a field goal with 6:35 left but Anderson answered with a driving layup 28 seconds later. Washington again closed with three points when Darvin Ham made a layup with 5:36 to play but Grant made a three-point play to give Orlando an 85-79 lead 19 with seconds to go.

"We always said that if you give a big effort anything can happen and fortunately for us tonight the effort was there," Grant said.

Anderson sank a pair of free throws with 26 seconds to go for Orlando's largest lead and the final margin.
