GAME RECAP

Derek Strong scored 20 points and Darrell Armstrong added 18 and the bench scored all 31 fourth-quarter points as the Orlando Magic rallied from a 20-point deficit for a 96-93 overtime victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers.

A basket by rookie Cedric Henderson gave the Cavaliers an 81-61 lead with 8:30 to go in the fourth quarter. But Cleveland collapsed as Orlando went on a 22-6 burst run to pull within four points with 1:06 left. Shawn Kemp had a chance to put Cleveland ahead by six with 26 seconds remaining, but missed two free throws.

Strong cut the deficit in half with a 10-footer with 17 seconds left and Armstrong stole Wesley Person's ensuing inbounds pass and went in for the tying layup three seconds later.

"It was not a very smart play by me, it was inexcusable," admitted Person. "I thought I saw (Brevin) Knight open."

In overtime, Gerald Wilkins, Strong and Armstrong made baskets to open a 93-87 lead. Wesley Person made it 93-90 with a three-pointer, but the stunned Cavs were unable to make their way back.

"I have to say, it was somewhat of a surprise ending," said Orlando coach Chuck Daly. "We struggled tremendously offensively and couldn't make any shots. So we decided to put in a group that has pressed for us and bring in Brian Evans. He just made a lot of shots and got us back into the game."

The Magic improved to 4-0 without All-Star guard Penny Hardaway, who is sidelined with tendinitis in his left knee.

Rookie Zydrunas Ilgauskas had 21 points and 15 rebounds and Kemp added 18 points for Cleveland, which shot 44 percent (41-of-94) from the field.

Person scored 17 points, including a three-pointer, to make it 95-93 with 13.9 seconds remaining in overtime, but Wilkins hit a free-throw with less than a second left and the Cavs missed a desperation heave at the buzzer.

"Orlando did a great job and their second unit turned the game around," said Cavaliers coach Mike Fratello. "They took us out of everything we were trying to do down the strtetch."

Evans was one of the heroes off the bench for the Magic, scoring nine points and pulling down four boards in the final quarter. His 11-footer with 2:37 left triggered an 11-0 burst that forced the tie.

"It was a whole lot of fun for us and the second unit hung in there," said Evans. "Twenty points down and we made a great comeback. He gave me a chance to get in there and the second unit had some really active guys."

Cleveland got help from its bench in the second quarter while building a 50-42 halftime lead. Reserves Cedric Henderson scored 13 points and Greg Graham had 10, but the two played only a combined 14 minutes in the second half.
