GAME RECAP

David Robinson had 21 points and 11 rebounds and Tim Duncan added 19 and 10 as the San Antonio Spurs cruised to a 108-87 romp over the winless Golden State Warriors.

Both Robinson and Duncan were on the bench for the majority of the fourth quarter as San Antonio rebounded from consecutive losses and won for the first time in five meetings with the Warriors. The pair also combined for eight blocked shots. The Spurs shot 51 percent (37-for-72) from the field and outrebounded the Warriors, 49-39.

"They lost a lot of games but they are a capable team so we came out with our business faces on," Duncan said.

"Defensively we did a better job, we had chances tonight to really put them away and we kept letting them stay in," Robinson said. "We have to play a full 48 minutes. It makes a huge difference when we make our outside shots, it stretches the defense out and everything flows much better. We still didn't feel like we did the things we wanted to but it was still a great win for us."

Latrell Sprewell scored 20 points and Donyell Marshall added 16 for the Warriors, who have lost by double digits in all but one of their nine defeats. Golden State got points from all 12 of its players but shot just 11 percent (1-for-9) from three-point range. Golden State's frontcourt duo of Joe Smith and Erick Dampier were held to 10 points and nine rebounds, shooting just 27 percent (4-for-15) from the floor.

"We didn't get the easy bucket tonight," said Golden State coach P.J. Carlesimo. "I thought David played well. We were down and I knew we weren't playing tomorrow and I didn't want to keep Sprewell in. Joe Smith couldn't get into a rhthym tonight because of foul trouble. We had some very tough matchups with David down there."

San Antonio controlled the game from the outset, taking the lead for good when Sean Elliott's jumper made it 8-7 with 8:38 left in the opening quarter. Jaren Jackson sank a three-pointer to cap an 8-0 spurt for a 14-7 advantage with 6:51 to go.

Elliott, who made 7-of-8 eight shots from the field, had eight of his 18 points in the first as the Spurs held a 28-20 lead. San Antonio built its lead to 53-40 at halftime.

Will Perdue had a dunk off a missed jumper by Cory Alexander to cap a 10-2 run and give the Spurs their biggest lead of the game, 82-59, with 1:12 left in the third. The Spurs received 40 points from their bench.
