GAME RECAP

Rodney Rogers scored 20 points and grabbed 12 rebounds and Billy Owens missed an open three-footer at the buzzer as the Los Angeles Clippers held on for a 99-97 victory over the Sacramento Kings, snapping a nine-game losing streak.

"It (ending the streak) felt good," said Rogers. "We had two opportunities earlier against Chicago and the Lakers, we should have won both games. But those things happen."

The Clippers held an 85-75 lead midway through the final quarter, but Mitch Richmond scored 10 points to fuel a 20-11 run that lifted Sacramento within 96-95 with a minute left.

Darrick Martin hit a 14-footer to give Los Angeles a three-point edge, but Lawrence Funderburke sank a hook shot to cut it to one with 37 seconds to go. After Rogers made a layup with 4.1 seconds to play, Richmond lobbed an inbounds pass that Owens caught at the top of his leap close to the basket, but was unable to finish.

"The first half we got dominated in every position there was," conceded Richmond. "I think in the second half we were determined to try to beat this team. I think we beat them in the second half, but we didn't beat them as far as the game."

Martin led a 36-point effort from the bench with 15 points and Maurice Taylor added 12. Los Angeles shot 47 percent (38-of-81) from the floor and commited just 11 turnovers. The Clippers held a 28-25 rebounding edge in the first half, but Sacramento went on to grab 29 of the next 42 boards for a 54-41 advantage on the glass.

"Sacramento came out like every NBA team does when they're down at the half," Taylor said. "They came out fighting. We held them off and got some clutch rebounds down the stretch."

Brent Barry scored 19 points and Lamond Murray chipped in with 18 for the Clippers, who ended a five-game home losing streak.

Richmond finished with 31 points, Corliss Williamson added 21 and Owens contributed 21 and 18 rebounds for Sacramento, which suffered its third consecutive road loss.

The Clippers ran out to a 19-5 lead and would build a 22-point lead before settling for a 58-40 halftime advantage. Rogers scored 11 in the first quarter, including seven in the opening spurt.

They used an 18-7 second-quarter burst to open a 58-36 lead when Eric Piatkowski knocked down a pair of free throws with 1:38 to go in the half.

Los Angeles scored the opening basket of the second half before the Kings reeled off seven straight points to cut it to 58-47. They continued to chip away, pulling to within 68-61 on Williamson's fast-break layup with about three minutes to go.
