GAME RECAP

Chris Mullin scored a season-high 27 points and Reggie Miller had 14 of his 21 in a decisive third-quarter burst as the Indiana Pacers crushed the Vancouver Grizzlies, 106-85.

Indiana and Vancouver have met five times and the Pacers' victory margin has been at least 10 points in each game. Indiana won the first three meetings by margins of 14, 17 and 10 points before a franchise-record 47-point blowout last December 4th.

Miller, the Pacers' leading scorer, had torched the Grizzlies in the four previous meetings. He scored 36 points in the last encounter and averaged 26 points while shooting 60 percent.

"We wanted to come out aggressively and stay on them for the whole game," said Miller."

Dale Davis had 12 points and 10 rebounds as Indiana won for just the second time in five home games.

Pacers guard Mark Jackson had 11 assists to move past Guy Rodgers into 11th place on the all-time list with 6,924. Bob Cousy is next with 6,955.

"We got out in the open floor to get a lot of open shots but I think our defense triggered a lot," Mullin said. "I try to get good shots everytime. Every shot I take I like to think I can make it."

Indiana led 55-50 at halftime and scored 17 of the first 21 points in the third quarter to break it open. Miller hit four shots during the spurt, including three three-pointers, the last of which opened a 72-54 advantage.

"At the start of the second half the guys did what they had to do, they played excellent defense and moved the ball on offense," said Indiana coach Larry Bird. "I thought Mark Jackson did a great job of moving the ball and getting guys open shots. Chris Mullin played well tonight and did well on the defensive end.

George Lynch had 15 points and nine rebounds for Vancouver, which fell to 1-8 on the road and 0-8 when scoring fewer than 90 points. Shareef Abdur-Rahim chipped in 14 points. The Grizzlies dropped their third straight and lost for the fourth time in five games.

The Pacers, who shot 56 percent (44-of-79) from the field and connected on 50 percent (4-of-8) of their three-point attempts, forced 26 Vancouver turnovers which they turned into 31 points.

"We're not going to win any games turning the ball over," said Grizzlies coach Brian Hill. "We're not playing with any offensive consistency or any defensive intensity."

"In the third we came out and we weren't playing as aggressive and we coughed it up a lot," added Grizzlies forward Otis Thorpe."
