GAME RECAP

Kerry Kittles and Sam Cassell scored 25 points apiece, leading the New Jersey Nets to a 104-92 victory over the struggling Los Angeles Clippers.

Kittles scored 10 of his season-high points in the final quarter for the Nets, who improved to 2-1 on their five-game road trip and won for the sixth time in eight games overall.

Kendall Gill added 17 points for New Jersey, which won for the third straight time in Los Angeles. Gill has scored in double figures in 106 consecutive games, the fourth-longest streak in the league.

Brent Barry led the Clippers with 16 points before leaving late in the fourth quarter after being kicked in the right leg. Rookie Maurice Taylor contributed 15 points for the Clippers, who lost for the 10th time in 11 games.

"They (the Nets) are a physical team," said Barry. "They just wore us down in the second half."

Cassell scored 15 of his points in the first half as the Nets led 56-50 at the half. Kittles' dunk with 9:47 left in the third third quarter gave New Jersey its biggest lead at 62-50.

"We needed to go out and put together a solid game plan," said Cassell. "They can really shoot from the outside. They have a good team with a lot of talent."

The Clippers got back in the game with a 14-5 run, capped by Pooh Richardon's jumper with 3:40 left in the period that cut the deficit to 67-66. New Jersey carried a 73-71 lead into the final quarter.

Jayson Williams' layup with 9:39 to play capped an 11-2 spurt to start the period and extend the lead to 84-73.

Los Angeles got within 92-86 with 4:06 to go on Taylor's free throw before the Nets used a quick 6-1 spurt for a 98-87 advantage at the 1:48 mark. Kittles scored New Jersey's last six points to seal the win.

Kittles finished 9-of-17 from the floor for the Nets, who shot 47 percent (40-for-85) from field. Cassell was 10-for-22 from the floor, while adding nine assists. The Nets committed only six turnovers.

"Sam makes everything move," Kittles said. "Our offense is flowing much better than last year. I don't have to work as hard to get my shot this season. Sam makes us go as a team and that's what is important."

"New Jersey came out and played together as a team in the second half," Los Angeles coach Bill Fitch said. "They had good ball movement on offense and they got the shots they wanted."

The Nets played most of the game without starting forward Chris Gatling, who left the game in the second quarter with a sore right knee.

Los Angeles shot 44 percent (34-for-77) from the field.
