GAME RECAP

Antonio McDyess made a key block and steal in the final 30 seconds and George McCloud scored 16 points to lead six players in double figures to lift the Phoenix Suns to a 90-86 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks.

McCloud broke the Suns' 0-for-11 skid from three-point range by draining a shot from the top of the key with 57 seconds remaining to tie it, 86-86. On Milwaukee's next possession, McDyess blocked Ray Allen's drive in the lane. That led to Rex Chapman's go-ahead jumper with 23 seconds to go.

McDyess then picked off Terrell Brandon's pass intended for Glenn Robinson with 12 seconds left and Chapman iced the game with a pair of free throws seven seconds later. The Suns have won four of their last five games and swept the season series from the Bucks.

Jason Kidd added 14 points, eight rebounds, six assists and three steals for Phoenix. McDyess had 13 points, 10 boards and three steals and Clifford Robinson 12 points, nine rebounds and three steals.

"We knew they were going to double-team us, but I hit the three," said McCloud. "(Coach Danny) Ainge just allows us to shoot. I got to start tonight and tried to play the best basketball that I could."

Brandon led Milwaukee with 23 points. Robinson had 17 points, six assists and three steals and Tyrone Hill grabbed 10 rebounds.

"We were in a good position to win at the end, we had a couple of breaks, but all of a sudden they got the win," said Milwaukee coach Chris Ford, who saw his team outscored 7-0 over the last 67 seconds. "We didn't execute our defense properly and we didn't follow the game plan. I was happy with the flow of the game, but we should have put them away."

Both teams were sloppy, with Phoenix's 23 turnovers leading to 23 points and Milwaukee's 20 leading to 25.

"All I have to say is George picked the right time to make a jumper," said Ainge, who had led Phoenix to its best start in three years with a 10-3 mark. "We were making more mistakes than the Bucks. Our team is feeling that we're better than we actually are, and we're starting games with little energy. No matter who we put in the starting lineup, we don't go out and play with energy."

Brandon scored 14 points in the first half to stake the Bucks to a 53-46 lead.

Phoenix surged ahead 59-58 with 6:50 left in the third quarter following an 11-3 spurt, with Mark Bryant's free throw giving the Suns the lead.

Milwaukee overcame Phoenix's 70-66 lead at the start of the fourth quarter with a 10-1 run. Michael Curry started it with a dunk and Ray Allen, who shot just 3-for-11, hit a layup to give the Bucks a 76-71 lead with 8:11 to go.

Brandon connected on a three-pointer and hit a free throw with 1:07 left to give Milwaukee an 86-83 lead before Phoenix's late surge.

"We hung in there and made the defensive stops," said Chapman. "George hit the huge shot and we overcame in the second half with better intensity."
