GAME RECAP

Corliss Williamson scored a career-high 27 points and grabbed nine rebounds and Mitch Richmond added 24 points as the Sacramento Kings cruised to a surprisingly easy 113-101 victory over the Utah Jazz.

Richmond had six points in a huge 20-2 run bridging the first and second quarters and scored 16 in the first half as the Kings built a 58-44 lead. Williamson scored 12 points in the third quarter, including nine in a decisive run late in the period.

Richmond became the ninth player in NBA history to reach 1,000 three-pointers in the fourth quarter and helped the Kings hold on to a double-digit lead throughout the second half.

"I think everyone came out and the intensity was there," Richmond said. "It's good to see us jump back on them again early in the game, and it forced them to play catch-up ball most of the game."

Terry Dehere had a season-high 21 points, eight assists and six rebounds for Sacramento, which has won both meetings against Utah this season after losing the previous 14. The Kings have won two straight games following a six-game losing streak.

"Hopefully we can win 14 straight against them now," Williamson said. "I think the win we got against them early in the season gave us a lot of confidence in knowing we could play with them."

Karl Malone, who played in his 1,000th career game, had 34 points and 10 rebounds as the Jazz lost for just the second time in their last nine games. Malone, who had four assists with six turnovers, has missed just four games in his 13-year career.

In his second game back in action, John Stockton was limited to four points and five assists in 20 minutes. He committed three turnovers, made 1-of-5 shots from the field and was called for a technical foul in the third quarter for arguing with an official.

"They played harder than we did and earned a tough victory. Give them the credit," Stockton said. "We'll get better as the season goes on."

Utah's Adam Keefe sank two free throws to give Utah a 19-18 lead with 3:43 left in the opening period. Sacramento's Olden Polynice, who had 14 points and 10 boards, answered with a hook shot that gave Sacramento the lead for good and sparked the 20-2 burst.

Williamson scored four points and Richmond had his six in the 14-2 spurt to close the first quarter. Lawrence Funderburke's dunk with 37 seconds to go built the Kings' lead to 32-21.

Dehere scored the first six points of the second period, hitting a pair of jumpers and two free throws to make it 38-21, and Utah trailed by double digits the rest of the way.

"The first half didn't help us," said Jazz guard Jeff Hornacek, who scored 12 points. "You look at them and you wonder why they don't have more wins than that. They always play hard and that's to their credit."

Billy Owens chipped in 12 points and nine boards for Sacramento, which forced 21 turnovers and outrebounded the Jazz, 45-37.

"We played with a lot of energy and aggressiveness in probably the most physical game of the year," Kings coach Eddie Jordan said. "You can't just play smart or just play hard against this team, you need to put it all together to accomplish what we did tonight."

Howard Eisley's layup pulled the Jazz within 70-60 with 4:22 remaining in the third quarter, but Williamson answered with his own layup to spark an 11-2 run. Williamson had nine points in the spurt and his three-point play capped it for an 81-62 cushion with 1:37 to go in the period.

"I've been trying to get aggressive on the offensive end of the floor," Williamson said.

"I think Corliss worked very hard, made his shots and hustled after the ball and completed plays," Stockton added.

Dehere added seven points in the third period, helping the Kings to a 86-68 lead.

Kings guard Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf missed the game due to tendinitis in both elbows. He is listed as day-to-day.

Bryon Russell contributed 12 points and eight rebounds for the Jazz, who have lost their last two road games.
