GAME RECAP

Cedric Ceballos, pressed into action due to various injuries and illnesses, scored a season-high 21 points in 23 minutes off the bench to lead the Phoenix Suns to a 107-85 rout of the Vancouver Grizzlies.

Ceballos, who had played in just 10 of the Suns' first 16 games, was 9-of-13 from the field. Phoenix, already without injured guard Kevin Johnson, was without swingman George McCloud, who missed the game with the flu. Another guard, Rex Chapman, left in the third quarter with an injured hamstring.

"It's an opportunity where Rex was out, George was down and Kevin's been out for a while, so there's just some minutes for me and I tried to take full advantage," Ceballos said. "I just come in and create as much havoc as I can when I'm in there."

Antonio McDyess had 20 points and nine rebounds and Danny Manning added 14 points for the Suns, who are 7-2 all-time against the Grizzlies, including 4-1 in Phoenix.

Shareef Abdur-Rahim had 21 points and nine rebounds for Vancouver, which lost for the seventh time in its last eight games.

Phoenix held a 55-48 lead with 8:45 left in the third quarter before McDyess hit a jumper, Jason Kidd made a layup and McDyess dunked to extend the lead to 61-48 with 6:51 remaining in the period. The Grizzlies scored the next three points, but could never get the deficit below 10 points.

After Vancouver closed within 65-53, Clifford Robinson scored three points and McDyess two to put the game out of reach at 70-53 with 2:30 left in the third. The Suns led 76-61 entering the fourth quarter.

"We just got away from what we were doing good in the first half," Abdur-Rahim said. "We didn't do the same stuff in the third quarter, we came out and everything just got away from us from that point on."

Phoenix turned it into a laugher by hitting its first eight shots of the final period, outscoring Vancouver, 18-7, during that span. Ceballos' three-pointer gave the Suns their largest lead at 94-68 with 5:48 to play.

McDyess scored 10 points in the first quarter, helping the Suns to a 29-24 lead. Vancouver closed within 45-44 on Abdur-Rahim's layup with two minutes left in the second period, but Chapman nailed a three-pointer and Robinson added a bucket to make it 50-44 at halftime.

"I played well but it was against a mediocre team," McDyess said. "I want to reach my high standards and play well against a competitive, better team."

Robinson finished with 12 points and Steve Nash had 10 and a season-high eight assists for the Suns, who shot 56 percent (45-of-81) from the field and held a 43-32 rebounding advantage. Chapman had nine points and a season-high seven of Phoenix's 36 assists.

Rookie Antonio Daniels scored 13 points and Pete Chilcutt added 12 for the Grizzlies, who shot 43 percent (36-of-83) and made just 8-of-16 free throws.
