GAME RECAP

Joe Dumars scored all of his season-high 22 points in the second half and Brian Williams had 19 points and 11 rebounds, leading the Detroit Pistons to their 11th straight win over the New Jersey Nets, 103-99.

New Jersey has lost nine consecutive games at the Palace of Auburn Hills, including 96-88 on November 15th behind Lindsey Hunter's career-high 35 points. The last time the Nets beat the Pistons was on February 6th, 1995 at the Meadowlands Arena.

Grant Hill chipped in with 18 points and nine rebounds and Lindsey Hunter had 15 points for Detroit, which has won a season-high three straight games. Malik Sealy added 14 points off the bench as Detroit's reserves outscored New Jersey's, 26-8.

"It was another great win for us," said Detroit coach Doug Collins. "The most exciting for thing me was the way we shot the ball number one, and number two, Joe Dumars. In the second half he was brilliant. We did a good job in the second half of guarding their perimeter people."

Rookie Keith Van Horn went 13-for-13 from the free throw line and scored 24 points -- his second straight season high -- to lead the Nets, who have lost five of their last six games. Sam Cassell added 21 points and Jayson Williams had 15 and 16 boards.

"I missed a lot of shots I should've made. I either missed them or got them blocked, but I was aggressive," said Van Horn, who shot just 5-for-19 from the field. "When I'm aggressive I get to the line. I was surprised I got a lot of calls because in previous games I never got them."

"That was a flat game for us. We've got to play better," said New Jersey coach John Calipari. "We had a 10-point lead in the first half, sat back and played sloppy. We're not good enough to play that way. We got off to a good start because we were scrapping and playing hard. You can't play methodical against this team."

With the game tied 73-73 in the fourth quarter, Hill started off a 9-0 run by the Pistons with a jumper. Hunter capped off the burst with a single free throw to give Detroit an 82-73 lead with 5:55 left.

The Pistons extended their lead to 10 points, at 90-80, with 2:38 to go after Dumars hit a jumper.

New Jersey battled back and pulled to within 90-86 just 67 seconds later when Williams hit a fastbreak layup following a steal by Van Horn.

The Nets could not pull any closer than four points down the stretch, as Sealy went 5-for-6 from the free throw line and Dumars 6-for-8.

"I was able to knock some shots down to keep us in the game and then down the stretch to keep them at bay," said Dumars. "They were trying to make a charge and it felt good to step up and knock some down.

"It's been a struggle trying to get back. I've been very reluctant to post up because I didn't want to get hit," said Dumars, referring to the separated shoulder which forced him to miss five games in November. "Tonight I just said okay, either I'm going to get hit and be out again, or I'm going to fight through it."

In the first half, a 13-3 run by New Jersey, ending with a Van Horn bucket, gave the Nets a 31-21 advantage with 10:53 left in the second quarter.

Detroit answered with a 13-3 run of its own, with a basket by Williams tying the game at 44-44 with 2:27 left in the half. The Nets, led by 12 points each from Van Horn and Cassell, went into intermission with a 49-46 edge.
