GAME RECAP

Reggie Miller scored 22 points and Jalen Rose added 15 as the Indiana Pacers remained perfect against the Toronto Raptors with a 108-101 victory.

Mark Jackson had 13 points and eight assists and Dale Davis grabbed eight rebounds for Indiana, which defeated Toronto for the second time this season and has won 10 all-time meetings with the Raptors. The Pacers allowed more than 99 points for just the second time this season but improved to 9-0 against teams under .500.

"We didn't come to play. Maybe three or four came, but we were soft," said Indiana coach Larry Bird. "We were lucky to get out with the win. The Raptors switch, run and try to trap. You have to run the ball at them and play physical. When you have three guys playing, it's difficult."

"We didn't play particularly well," Miller said. "We want to become a championship team and on any given night a team can get hot. We missed some shots. You have to get up for every game."

Marcus Camby scored a season-high 28 points and Damon Stoudamire added 16 and a season-high 15 assists for the Raptors, who have lost 19 of their last 20 games.

"I'd rather have a victory than a nice offensive game" Camby said. "We'll just have to build on this one. We're still learning as a team. I felt pretty good. Damon got me the ball in easy positions to score."

"I just didn't hit any shots, but that isn't the reason we lost," said Stoudamire, who shot 5-of-15 from the field. "We had an offensive and defensive mental lapse in the fourth quarter and they capitalized on it. It was a good effort, but we lost again and that's the bottom line."

Miller's layup gave the Pacers the lead for good, 68-67, with 7:09 left in the third. Davis followed with a layup, capping a 9-2 burst and giving Indiana a 70-67 lead with 6:40 remaining in the quarter.

John Wallace made a jumper to pull the Raptors within 70-69 with 5:51 to play in the third. But Antonio Davis answered with a layup with 4:01 to go and hit two free throws 58 seconds later for a 74-69 lead. Indiana held an 80-73 advantage at the end of the third.

The Raptors closed within 84-81 when Camby made a layup with 9:21 remaining. But Fred Hoiberg made two free throws with 8:28 to go and Travis Best hit a jumper to increase Indiana's lead to 88-81 with 7:38 left. Doug Christie's three-pointer cut the deficit to 88-84 with 6:59 to play, but the Pacers responded with an 8-2 surge, capped by Rose's layup, for their biggest lead, 96-86, with 4:14 left.

"Mark Jackson was our best player on the court tonight and I like the combination of Travis and Jalen," Bird said. "Mark played his tail off and the other guys didn't. This was a game we had to have."

Indiana's bench outscored Toronto's substitutes, 44-21.

"We could have done a lot better, but the bottom line is we won the game," said Rose, who had 15 points and seven assists in 26 minutes. "I was just trying to make something happen because I saw at the beginning we were flat. I work hard on trying to be the guy who can be in a lot of situations. I want to make it my trademark. It's tough to get up for every single game but, luckily, we found a way to win this game."

Miller scored nine points and Chris Mullin added eight of his 11 as the Pacers took a 29-28 edge after the first period. Camby had 14 and Stoudamire added 12 in the first half as Toronto held a 57-56 lead at the break.
