GAME RECAPDavid Robinson had 22 points, 14 rebounds and four blocks to lead the San Antonio Spurs to their third consecutive victory, 99-85 over the Denver Nuggets, who have dropped five in a row.
Rookie Tim Duncan added 20 points, Jaren Jackson 18 and Avery Johnson 10 assists for the Spurs, who snapped a four-game road losing streak. San Antonio won its second game of the season at McNichols Sports Arena, having opened the season with a 107-96 victory October 31st.
That loss was part of a franchise-record, 12-game losing streak to start the season for the Nuggets.
Danny Fortson scored 18 points off the bench, fellow rookie Eric Washington added 14 and four steals and Dean Garrett 12 and nine rebounds for Denver, which fell to 2-20 this season.
While San Antonio hit 53 percent (38-for-72) of its shots from the field, Denver only connected on 35 percent (29-for-84) of its attempts.
With the game tied 4-4 early in the first quarter, San Antonio put together an 14-0 run to take the lead for good. Jackson opened the spurt with a three-pointer and Robinson finished it with a 14-footer, giving the Spurs an 18-4 advantage with 5:36 left in the quarter.
Denver only managed to score 13 points in the first quarter, as the Spurs opened up a 13-point lead. San Antonio stretched its lead to as many as 19 points in the second quarter, when two free throws by Robinson with 1:40 left made it 48-29.
The Spurs maintained their double-digit lead throughout the second half, outscoring Denver 31-30 in the third quarter. San Antonio was outscored 26-20 in the final 12 minutes.
Denver closed the gap to 11 points, 85-74, with 6:10 to go in the fourth quarter following two free throws by Washington, but the Nuggets could not pull any closer down the stretch.
