GAME RECAP

Isaiah Rider scored 17 of his 31 points in the final quarter and Brian Grant added 19 and 14 rebounds as the Portland Trail Blazers halted a three-game losing streak by rallying for a 96-91 victory over the Vancouver Grizzlies.

Rider had just two points in the first half as the Blazers fell behind 40-35, but was unstoppable thereafter. He drained five three-pointers, including three during a 17-9 run to begin the fourth quarter that put Portland ahead for good.

"I felt I had a pretty good second half," Rider said. "It's good to know from the team's standpoint that we can be down and come back. This was a very winnable game for Vancouver. They played a really good game. We were lucky to get out of it with a win."

Shareef Abdur-Rahim had 25 points and Bryant Reeves 18 for the Grizzlies, who led by as many as nine points in the third quarter before losing their fourth in a row on the road.

"We did good getting to the line but we didn't make our shots," said Abdur-Rahim. "Once Isaiah Rider started hitting, he exploded."

Vancouver led the majority of the game and took a 65-57 lead with 2:04 left in the third quarter when George Lynch sank 1-of-2 from the line.

Rider began the charge back with a bucket, Alvin Williams hit a pair of free throws and Gary Trent sank a foul shot to pull Portland within 65-62 after three periods. Williams had 11 points and eight assists and Trent netted seven points off the bench for the Blazers, who hit 44 percent (32-of-73) of their shots.

Portland took a short-lived lead in the opening moments of the fourth quarter when Trent converted a three-point play and Rider made a shot from behind the arc. Arvydas Sabonis and Trent hit consecutive free throws as the Blazers built a 70-65 advantage.

Vancouver, which went more than seven minutes over the third and fourth quarters without a field goal, fought back and took a 72-71 lead on a bucket by Abdur-Rahim. But Rasheed Wallace's follow dunk and a pair of three-pointers by Rider around a jumper by Vancouver's Antonio Daniels gave the Blazers a 79-74 edge with 6:51 to play.

"Isaiah Rider got hot quick and we couldn't stop him," said Daniels, who had seven points and seven assists. "Also, we were hitting 77 percent at the line at one point in the game and we ended up hitting only 62 percent."

The Grizzlies hit just 22-of-37 attempts from the foul line, but Portland was hardly better, sinking 27-of-42 for 64 percent.

Wallace contributed 14 points, nine rebounds and three blocks for Portland, which got six free throws by Rider in the final 43 seconds to seal its fourth home win in a row.

"J.R. (Rider) is a great talent," Williams said. "I think he is one of the best two-guards in the league. He can score whenever he wants to. It was a tough game and we were fortunate to get a win."

Lynch scored 12 points off the bench and Tony Massenburg had eight points and 10 rebounds for the Grizzlies, who shot 43 percent (33-of-77) from the field and were outrebounded 46-42.
