GAME RECAP

Corliss Williamson tied season highs with 27 points and 10 rebounds and hit the eventual game-winning free throw as the Sacramento Kings handed the Dallas Mavericks their eighth straight loss, 89-88.

Williamson scored five of Sacramento's final seven points and Mitch Richmond added 20 points as the Kings won on the road for just the second time this season. Rookie Anthony Johnson chipped in with a season-high 18 points.

"The guys that played tonight really stepped up and did a great job," said Richmond, one of two non-rookies in the starting lineup. "It feels good to get this road win. We had sometimes four rookies out there tonight and it was a good experience for them."

Dennis Scott scored 14 of his 21 points in the fourth quarter and Samaki Walker contributed a career-high 18 points for the Mavericks, who fell to 1-8 under Don Nelson. Dallas was held below 90 points for the 11th time this season and suffered its fifth straight home loss.

"It was a tough loss for us," Nelson said. "It was a game I thought we should have won, but we didn't. We certainly had our opportunities."

Sacramento brought a two-point lead into the fourth quarter and quickly extended it to 74-66 with 10:13 to play. But Scott heated up, hitting three straight three-pointers in a 13-0 burst that gave the Mavericks a 79-74 advantage. Michael Finley had the other four points in the run.

A three-pointer by Terry Dehere and three free throws from Williamson gave the Kings an 80-79 lead with 5:15 remaining, and after Scott buried his fourth three-pointer of the quarter, Dehere tied it at 82-82 with 4:19 to play.

Williamson and Scott exchanged buckets before Robert Pack made a pair of free throws for an 86-84 advantage with 3:02 left. Williamson tied it again with a jumper before Hubert Davis and Richmond exchanged jumpers for an 88-88 tie with just over two minutes remaining.

With 1:37 to go, Williamson grabbed an offensive rebound and was fouled. After he made the second free throw for an 89-88 advantage, Dallas had two shots to win. With 31 seconds left, Pack's jumper was blocked by Michael Stewart. Sacramento gave the ball back on a shot clock violation with seven seconds left, but Finley's fallaway from the left corner bounced in and out as time expired.

"When Finley put up that last shot I was hoping that it would just hit the rim," Williamson said. "But when I saw that it might go in, I just wanted to cry."

Dallas raced to a 29-23 lead after one quarter, and Davis scored eight points in the second period, helping the Mavericks build a 53-44 halftime lead. But Sacramento opened the third with a 10-2 burst to close within a point, and later in the period used a 9-0 spurt to assume a 68-61 advantage. The Mavericks scored the final five points of the period to close within 68-66 entering the fourth.

Rookie Tariq Abdul-Wahad finished with 10 points for the Kings, who shot 46 percent (36-of-78) from the field.

Pack had 14 points and Davis and Finley contributed 13 apiece for the Mavericks, who shot 44 percent (34-of-78) and held a 47-36 rebounding advantage.
