GAME RECAP

Detlef Schrempf had 20 points and nine rebounds and Vin Baker added 19 points as the Seattle SuperSonics cruised to their sixth consecutive win and 12th straight at home, 108-89 over the Golden State Warriors.

Gary Payton contributed 16 points and 11 assists as Seattle improved its league-best record to 21-5 and beat Golden State for the 10th straight time. Dale Ellis chipped in 14 points and drained his third three-pointer of the game with 10:30 to play, giving him 1,500 for his career, tops on the all-time list.

"I know it's a lot of three's. It's something you'll look back on years from now and marvel over," Ellis said. "In my prime, I was asked to take shots. I played for coaches that were a little dissapointed when I turned down opportunites to shoot. As a consequence, I have ended up shooting quite a few three's."

"That's some gunning, 1500 three-pointers, that a lot of shots," Sonics guard Hersey Hawkins said of his teammate's milestone. "He's still one of the best shooters around."

Tony Delk scored a season-high 20 points for the Warriors, who have dropped six straight road games and have lost 21 of the last 24 games against the Sonics, including 10 of 11 in Seattle.

"They're the best team in the league, but we just have to bring it," Delk said. "We have to take it to them and be a lot more aggressive."

Joe Smith had been Golden State's top scorer in the last six games, averaging 24.3 points, but was limited to just five points on 2-of-12 shooting. Fellow starting forward Donyell Marshall missed the game due to a sprained lower back and a strained left calf.

Seattle led 19-14 in the early going and took control by closing the first period with a 10-2 spurt. Aaron Williams scored six of his 11 points in that run and his bucket gave the Sonics a 29-16 lead. Payton scored half his points in the period.

Golden State pulled within 36-26 on a dunk by rookie Adonal Foyle, who had 12 points, but Seattle reeled off the next nine points. Baker scored six during that stretch and Schrempf's tip-in with 4:53 left before halftime built a 45-26 lead.

The Warriors got no closer than 13 points thereafter and Payton sank three straight free throws to give Seattle its biggest lead, 91-62, with just over 10 minutes to play.

"I thought we controlled the game from the very beginning rather than fight and have to get control somewhere in the second quarter," Sonics coach George Karl said. "We're in a nice rhythm, and we're playing teams that are struggling a little bit.

Hawkins registered 13 points and seven rebounds for the Sonics, who scored over 100 points for the sixth straight game. Seattle is averaging 110.3 points during that stretch.

Erick Dampier had 15 points and eight rebounds for Golden State, which made just 12-of-21 free throws and committed 17 turnovers.

"They (Seattle) just disrupted us and defended us well," Warriors coach P.J. Carlesimo said. "One of the things they do well is they anticipate."

Seattle had a 47-43 rebounding advantage and shot 47 percent (38-of-81) from the field while limiting the Warriors to 43 percent (38-of-89).

"One of the things we did not expect them to do well was rebound," Carlesimo added. "We're the top team in rebounding in the league, and they're in the bottom five, and they just hammered us. We thought we had to not just win the boards, but also dominate the boards, and that didn't happen."
