GAME RECAP

David Robinson had 34 points and 13 rebounds and rookie Tim Duncan added 23, 15 and a career-high eight blocks as the San Antonio Spurs cruised past the Boston Celtics, 101-86, for their seventh straight win.

Robinson hit 11-of-14 from the field and 12-of-15 from the free-throw line and moved past Mike Mitchell into second place on the Spurs all-time scoring list, trailing only George Gervin. The All-Star center also reached 15,000 points with a free throw with 8:10 left in the second quarter.

Duncan shot 9-of-12 from the field for San Antonio, which shot 55 percent (35-of-64) from the field and hit 30-of-39 foul shots.

The Spurs put away the game in that period, using a 9-0 spurt to open a 45-29 bulge. Robinson had six points in the run and capped it with a dunk with 4:13 to play in the half.

"Duncan and Robinson are tall, and they also have long arms," said Celtics 7-0 center Travis Knight. "They catch a lot of balls that a lot of guys won't catch, and they just took it inside and dominated us."

Jaren Jackson's dunk with 5:53 to play gave San Antonio its biggest lead, 91-66.

"We were physically dominated inside," said Boston coach Rick Pitino. "We pressed 50 percent of the time during the game and caused a lot of turnovers (25), but with their size it didn't make a big diffrence."

Antoine Walker scored 21 points on 10-of-26 shooting but committed six turnovers for Boston, which shot 42 percent (37-of-89) from the floor and attempted only 10 free throws, making eight.

Rookie swingman Ron Mercer added 16 off the Celtics' bench, which contributed 40 points. Boston had a four-game winning streak snapped and lost for just the second time in eight games.

"It was a tough style of play to go against with the Celtics," said Duncan. "Our inside defense got things going on the fast break. Our big bodies allowed us to get rebounds and second chances."

Monty Williams scored 16 points in a reserve role for the Spurs, who outrebounded the Celtics 48-25 on the way to their eighth straight win at home and eighth in a row against Boston in San Antonio.
