GAME RECAP

Jerry Stackhouse scored eight of his 19 points during a decisive second-half run and Grant Hill added 14 and nine assists as the well-rested Detroit Pistons posted their sixth straight victory over the Golden State Warriors, 101-72.

The Pistons, who had not played in six days, took a 42-38 halftime lead and dominated coming out of the break. Stackhouse paced a 22-2 run in which the Warriors committed six turnovers and missed 9-of-10 shots.

"I think our defense is really what did it in the third quarter," Stackhouse said. "I think we came out a little sluggish with the layoff we had, in the first quarter and even throughout the first half."

Detroit held a decisive 51-36 rebounding advantage while posting its second blowout win over Golden State. The Pistons downed the Warriors, 102-71, on November 12th in Golden State.

Joe Smith netted 16 points and Tony Delk 14 for the hapless Warriors, who have lost five straight and eight of 10 to slide into last place in the Pacific Division. Golden State has lost its last four visits to Detroit.

"It's not that we gave up, we just have to find a way to match the other team's intensity and motivation," explained Smith. "I don't know why it happened, I don't know if we were tired or what."

Neither team was able to either build or hold a lead in the first half. But the Pistons jumped all over Golden State in the third quarter, scoring the first 11 points before Bimbo Coles hit the Warriors' first bucket of the period with 7:43 remaining. After Coles' basket, the Pistons reeled off 11 more points in a row.

"In the first half we matched their intensity. In the second half they drove through us and rebounded over us," said Warriors coach P.J. Carlesimo, whose team scored 14 points in the third quarter. "It's discouraging because it's happened like that a couple of times."

Stackhouse had 15 points after three quarters. Malik Sealy added 14 points off the bench and Brian Williams contributed 12. Reserve Jerome Williams pulled down 12 boards and scored eight points in 20 minutes for the Pistons, who shot 46 percent (40-of-87) from the field and sank 20-of-23 free throws.

Leading 72-52 after three quarters, Detroit built its advantage as big as 31 points in winning for just the second time in five home games. A three-point play by Eric Montross boosted the lead to 101-70 with 36 seconds to play.

"We were not lackadaisical, we were rusty," said Sealy. "But I think the practices we had (during the week) showed in the end. We were able to make some key baskets offensively with steals and good defense. That opened it up a lot for everything else."

Erick Dampier had 11 points and eight rebounds for the Warriors, who hit just 39 percent (29-of-75) from the field and an ugly 11-of-21 from the line.
