GAME RECAP

Glen Rice shook out of a shooting slump by scoring 38 points, including a club-record seven three-pointers, as the Charlotte Hornets shot the lights out in a 109-88 rout of the Toronto Raptors.

Rice who was just 12-for-49 over the last three games, made 14-of-28 shots, including 7-of-9 from three-point range. His seven three-pointers tied Dell Curry's team record set December 14th, 1995 against Portland.

"I just wanted to come out and hit my shots," Rice said. "It was very rewarding tonight. When I get the open shot, I have to hit it. The extra days off helped me get my strength back."

Matt Geiger took advantage of increased playing time to score a career-high 28 points, including 10 straight and 14 overall during a decisive 28-6 run that bridged the third and fourth quarters. Charlotte, which snapped a nine-game string of scoring under 100 points, shot 59 percent (43-of-73) from the field.

"We really played an outstanding game tonight," said Hornets coach Dave Cowens. "This team really wanted to beat us as well. Glen Rice shot the lights out from three-point range and Matt Geiger had a career night as well."

Zan Tabak scored a season-high 23 points and Damon Stoudamire added 22 and 12 assists for Toronto, which has lost nine of 11 and has yet to win consecutive games on the road this season.

"There is nothing I can do about it," said Raptors coach Darrell Walker. "Glen is just a great shooter. He is an all-star player and he is going to get his points."

The Hornets led 66-63 with 6:37 left in the third quarter when Geiger caught fire. He scored 10 straight points as Charlotte closed the quarter with a 14-4 burst.

Rice opened the fourth quarter with a three-pointer and Anthony Mason hit a layup. Rice buried another three-pointer to push the lead to 88-67 before Stoudamire interrupted the run with a pair or free throws.

But Geiger hit a layup and 17-footer sandwiched around a short jumper by David Wesley to extend Charlotte's lead to 25 points. The Hornets were 11-of-18 from the field over the final 12 minutes.

Geiger took advantage of time usually reserved for starting center Vlade Divac, who missed the game with a cartilage chip on the top part of the shin bone of his left leg. He is expected to undergo surgery on Tuesday and miss six to eight weeks. The increased playing time could serve Geiger well as he is a free agent following the season.

Curry was also missed the game after being placed on the injured list prior to the contest with a strained right calf.
