GAME RECAP

Shawn Kemp led six players in double figures with 29 points, helping the Cleveland Cavaliers snap a three-game home losing streak with a 112-96 victory over the Sacramento Kings.

The 112 points were Cleveland's highest offensive output this season and the Cavaliers improved to 11-0 when scoring at least 100. The win also prevented Cleveland from losing four straight home games for the first time since January 8th-23rd of last season.

Kemp also had 10 rebounds, Cedric Henderson scored 16 points and Wesley Person added 15 for the Cavs, who have defeated Sacramento 22 times in their last 27 meetings. Zydrunas Ilgauskas chipped in with 13 boards, rookie Brevin Knight had 16 assists and Vitaly Potapenko contributed 14 points off the bench.

Mitch Richmond scored 31 points and Corliss Williamson added 19 for the Kings, who have lost four in a row overall and five straight on the road. Michael Stewart added seven rebounds and Terry Dehere nine assists off the bench for Sacramento, which has dropped 14 consecutive games in Cleveland, with its last win coming in 1983-84 at the Richfield Coliseum.

Sacramento has lost the first four games on a five-game road trip that ends Saturday at Milwaukee.

"Cleveland played very well and I told our team if they got both games going, the inside and outside, we're done," Sacramento coach Eddie Jordan said. "I thought the matchups were tough for us tonight. If we're not quick on the perimeter with rotations, and not handling our post defense, then we're in sort of a bind. We almost have to play flawless basketball to win a game like this on the road."

Cleveland outrebounded Sacramento, 41-31, and outshot the Kings from the field, 54 percent (44-for-81) to 47 percent (36-for-76). Cleveland also was hot at the free throw line, hitting 19-of-20 attempts. Sacramento missed eight of 27 foul shots.

A basket by Anthony Johnson with 9:30 left in the first quarter gave Sacramento a 3-2 lead, but the Cavaliers took the lead for good 24 seconds later when Brevin Knight hit a jumper.

After Williamson hit a layup to pull the Kings within 18-15 at the 4:42 mark, Cleveland ripped off six quick points, with Kemp making a pair of free throws and a 16-foot jumper and Knight adding a basket to make it 24-15.

Kemp and Knight each finished the quarter with 10 points as the Cavs opened a 36-25 edge. The 36 points were a season-high for the first quarter for Cleveland.

"It feels good to get a win," Cavs coach Mike Fratello said. "It seems like it's been a long time. The Kings have played well lately and we caught them on a good night, after they played Wednesday. We wanted to try to come out early, and scoring 36 points was a good sign for us.

Sacramento pulled within 49-41 with 3:39 left in the second quarter after Terry Dehere connected on a jumper, but the Cavaliers built their advantage back to 59-43 at halftime. Cleveland set a season high for first-half scoring as Kemp had 16 points.

"We tightened up the defense a litle bit in the second quarter by holding them to 18 points," Fratello said. "Mitch Richmond doesn't let them get too far behind and he seems to keep making baskets all the time. I think in six of our previous eight or nine games, we've been behind at the end of the first quarter. That's not what we're trying to do and the guys paid extra attention to it tonight."

Cleveland, which maintained a double-digit lead throughout the second half, stretched its advantage to 94-73 with 10:07 remaining after a three-pointer by Derek Anderson. Sacramento got no closer than 13 in the second half.

"I think we did a great job," Henderson said. "Kemp came in and really took over. We got a quick start with him and followed his lead. Once he got going, we got behind him and took control of the game."
