GAME RECAP

Tim Hardaway scored 27 points, Jamal Mashburn added 25 and reserve Isaac Austin collected 21 and 10 rebounds as the Miami Heat cruised to a 102-90 victory over the Orlando Magic, who suffered their sixth straight defeat.

Hardaway and Mashburn did the majority of their damage in the first half, scoring 15 points apiece to pace the Heat to a 53-39 lead. Austin hit 9-of-11 from the field, playing 33 minutes as starting center Alonzo Mourning was plagued with foul trouble. Mashburn was just 5-of-12 from the field, but was perfect on 15 attempts from the line.

"I tried to pick up the slack with Zo (Mourning) in foul trouble," Austin said. "I'm more focused on playing hard whenever I'm asked and whatever minutes I get."

"I'm not going to talk about it (Mourning's constant foul trouble) anymore," said Miami coach Pat Riley, who proceeded to talk about it. "I've made my statement to the league, and I mean this. I'm not just trying to support Zo. He's one of the most abused players in the league, he doesn't get the benefit of the doubt."

Miami put away Orlando even earlier, holding the Magic without a field goal over the final three minutes of the first quarter to assume a 28-16 lead.

Orlando forward Derek Strong scored a season-high 24 points and grabbed 15 rebounds in his first game after spending six weeks on the injured list with a sprained left knee. But he could not prevent the Magic from dropping six in a row for the first time since December 1st-11th, 1992.

Mourning and Orlando's Bo Outlaw were assessed technical fouls after getting into a brief shoving match under the Orlando basket with 1:54 to go in the second quarter.

"Whenever somene grabs you around the head its a natural reaction to fight back," said Outlaw. "I dont want anyone to pull my head off, it's not the WWF (World Wrestling Federation). When someone grabs you like that what are you supposed to do?"

Orlando's Derek Harper, who was Riley's starting point guard with the New York Knicks, dismissed the scuffle.

"Nothing was going to happen, Zo's all talk," Harper said. "He's never been in a fight and he never will be. He talks and tries to play a head game, and tonight it cost him. Ike Austin plays just as well, I don't know what Riley's thinking. I don't know how they're going to trade him."

Orlando trailed from the start, but looked to be making a move when a tip-in by Rony Seiklay pulled it within 18-13 with 3:01 to go in the first quarter. But Voshon Lenard sank a 14-footer to ignite a 10-3 run, which culminated in a lay-in by Austin with 17 seconds remaining.

"The losses are mounting up, and it gets more and more frustrating as we go along," said a dejected Seikaly. "We couldn't play better than we did, we're giving it everything we've got."

Lenard had seven points and Mourning, who collected his fourth foul one minute into the third quarter, totaled just 10 and three rebounds in only 19 minutes for the Heat, who were outrebounded, 39-38, including 20-8 on the offensive glass.

Miami cruised through the first half thereafter, going ahead by as many as 18 points on a layup by Hardaway with 4:12 to go. Hardaway, who broke out of a slump with 24 points and 11 assists in Wednesday's victory over the 76ers, hit 10-of-16 from the field as Miami shot 53 percent (34-of-64) from the floor.

Seikaly and Darrell Armstrong each had 14 points for the Magic, who cut the deficit to seven points in the fourth quarter. Orlando closed within 70-63 early in the final period on a bucket by Harper, but Austin answered with consecutive baskets to boost the lead to 11 points.

Armstrong added 11 assists for the Magic, who committed just 12 turnovers but hit only 39 percent (32-of-82) of their shots.

Magic forward Horace Grant suffered a dislocated right ring finger after he hit his hand on the backboard in the second quarter. He is expected to return for Wednesday's game at Detroit.
