GAME RECAP

Charles Barkley scored 21 points and grabbed 13 rebounds as the Houston Rockets continued their dominance of the woeful Los Angeles Clippers with a 115-109 victory.

Clyde Drexler added 17 points and Kevin Willis 15 for the Rockets, who had seven players in double figures and used a huge advantage at the foul line to beat the Clippers for the fifth straight time and 19th in the last 21 meetings.

Eric Piatkowski scored 22 points and rookie Maurice Taylor added 21 for Los Angeles, which has dropped five in a row -- including a loss to league doormat Denver -- and fell to 4-21 on the road.

The Clippers shot 56 percent from the field, but Houston was 26-of-39 from the line, while Los Angeles got to the line just 18 times, making 12.

Los Angeles led for much of the first half and brought a 59-54 lead into halftime. The Clippers scored the first four points of the second half to extend their lead to 63-54 on Piatkowski's layup with 10:48 left in the third quarter. But Houston responded with a 15-4 burst to take the lead for good.

Rookie Rodrick Rhodes ignited the run with a three-point play with 10:23 remaining in the period. Matt Maloney had a layup and a three-pointer in the surge before Barkley knocked down a 20-footer to give Houston a 69-67 advantage with 6:55 to go in the period.

The Clippers got within one point late in the period, but Othella Harrington beat the buzzer with a long jumper to give Houston an 85-82 lead entering the fourth. Harrington was 6-of-7 from the field.

"This was a good shooting night tonight," Harrington said. "I think Rudy (Houston coach Rudy Tomjanovich) knows that when he calls me I'll be ready to play. I'm ready to play hard every night."

The Clippers still trailed by only two points when Taylor made a layup to make it 89-87 with 9:55 left in the fourth quarter. But Mario Elie made a layup, Eddie Johnson drilled a three-pointer and Brent Price had a bucket to extend Houston's lead to 96-87 with 8:33 to play. After a basket by Lorenzen Wright, Barkley hit two free throws and Johnson and Harrington had one apiece to make it 100-89.

"Othella and Mario and Brent Price really gave us a great lift tonight," Barkley said. "The rest of us just chipped in."

Taylor converted a three-point play to bring the Clippers within eight points, but Elie capped a 15-5 burst with another layup to provide the Rockets with a 102-92 lead with 6:20 remaining.

Rhodes finished with 14 points and Maloney and Price contributed 11 apiece for the Rockets, who shot 51 percent (41-of-80) from the field.

Darrick Martin totaled 15 points and 10 assists and Lamond Murray had 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Clippers, who committed 20 turnovers, leading to 23 Houston points.

"We just turned the ball over way too much down the stretch," Taylor said. "They didn't do anything special, we just threw the ball away and you can't do that when you're trying to come from behind."
