GAME RECAP

Scottie Pippen scored 12 of his 22 points in the third quarter as the Chicago Bulls recorded their 12th straight win over the Golden State Warriors, 87-80.

Luc Longley added 16 points for Chicago, which has not lost to the Warriors since November 5th, 1991. The Bulls also have won their last six visits to Golden State.

Michael Jordan was held to only 14 points for Chicago, which has won 10 of its last 12 games, including five straight on the road. The Bulls are 3-0 on their six-game western road trip.

Jordan, who has struggled at times in Golden State, had his worst shooting night of the season, connecting on only 2-of-17 shots from the field for the Bulls, who shot 30 percent (30-of-90).

"It was just a bad night on the job, but the bigger picture is that we won the game," Jordan said. "Physically, I felt great. If I could've explained what was happening I would've corrected it. We're not playing for the championship in January."

Joe Smith scored 18 points and Tony Delk added 17 off the bench for the Warriors, who lost for the 16th time in 17 games. Golden State, one of three teams still in single digits in victories, fell to 1-14 against Eastern Conference foes.

After Delk hit a jumper to give the Warriors a 59-58 lead with 4:26 left in the third quarter, the Bulls used an 11-4 spurt to close to the period. Ron Harper and Pippen had consecutive three-point plays for a 64-59 lead.

Smith made a layup to narrow the deficit to 64-61, but Jason Caffey had a dunk and Pippen capped the run with a layup and free throw for a 69-63 lead entering the final quarter.

"Scottie had great energy in the game tonight," Jackson said of Pippen. "I probably took him out too early when he was in a nice rhythm. He's about 90 percent healthy. His energy is there, but he doesn't have the stamina."

The Bulls still led 79-70 with just over six minutes to play before Warriors got back in the game with a 10-2 burst. Smith scored four points, and Todd Fuller capped the run with a layup that brought the Warriors to within 81-80 with 2:40 left. But the Warriors could get no closer as Chicago held them scoreless down the stretch.

Jordan converted four free throws and Harper added two over the final 84 seconds to seal the win.

"I thought we gave a great effort defensively," Jackson said. "That was one of the worst games we played this year, but defense wins championships."

Pippen scored 10 points in the opening quarter as the Bulls held a 28-20 lead. Delk hit for 13 points in the opening half which drew Golden State to within 46-45 at intermission.

Fuller finished with season highs of 11 points and 12 rebounds for the Warriors, who shot 40 perent (33-of-83) from the field.

Chicago held a 53-49 rebounding edge, led by 22 rebounds from Dennis Rodman.

"We got exceptional play off the bench tonight, especially on the defensive end and that's going to help us win," Golden State coach P.J. Carlesimo said. "We played pretty darn well. We can't defend any better and everybody was ready to play. It was a hell of an effort, but not good enough to beat the Bulls."
