GAME RECAP

Karl Malone scored 40 points as the Utah Jazz completed a perfect five-game road trip with a 110-92 victory over the undermanned Milwaukee Bucks.

Malone made 11-of-19 shots from the field and 18-of-19 free throws. He also grabbed eight rebounds and handed out five assists as the Jazz won their sixth straight game. Adam Keefe contributed 16 points and Howard Eisley added 11 for Utah, which has won 13 of its last 14 and is 1 1/2 games behind first-place Seattle in the Western Conference.

"It was a good win for us," Malone said. "It was a great way to finish the trip. I knew it was the last game of the trip, I can rest tomorrow for work on Monday. We made them pay for trapping. We handled the trap real well. It took time though, but we adjusted. You've just got to go to the spots and make them pay for it."

Ray Allen just missed his first career triple-double for the Bucks, finishing with 27 points, 11 assists and eight rebounds. Elliot Perry scored 14 points while Michael Curry and Armon Gilliam added 12 for Milwaukee, which was without starters Glenn Robinson, Tyrone Hill and Terrell Brandon.

"There's always games like this," said Utah coach Jerry Sloan. "(Bucks coach) Chris (Ford) did a good job with all the guys out. I didn't know the Bucks would have the energy. They hurt us for a while because we were giving them baskets. We're going out with five road wins and starting to play well. Malone was big for us. He proves that staying in shape helps you play better."

Robinson suffered a hyperextended left knee in the fourth quarter of Thursday's 104-87 victory over Denver and Hill has an upper respiratory infection. Brandon has been on the injured list since February 13th and has a walking cast on his left ankle.

"The guys that suited up played hard and gave it their all," Ford said. "We hung tough for a good portion of the game and gave the fans an honest effort. I was very pleased with the effort."

The Jazz scored the first eight points of the fourth period, increasing their lead to 82-70 when Eisley hit a free throw with 10:10 remaining. Milwaukee did not score in the fourth until Allen converted a pair of free throws with 9:50 to play. The Bucks were held without a field goal for a 7:13 span until Ervin Johnson had a tip-in to make it 84-74 with 8:35 to go.

Malone had eight points as Utah responded with a 10-2 burst. His jumper made it 94-76 with 5:32 left. At that point Utah was a perfect 7-for-7 from the field and 5-for-5 from the free-throw line in the period.

Milwaukee trailed by eight at the end of the first period but Allen hit a pair of free throws to cap an 8-1 surge and give the Bucks a 33-32 edge with 5:50 left in the second quarter. Utah took the lead right back as Bryon Russell made an 18-footer 43 seconds later.

John Stockton, who had seven assists in just 24 minutes, followed with a 16-footer and set up Malone's layup that gave the Jazz a 38-33 advanatge with 4:16 left. Malone had 15 points in the first half as Utah held a 50-43 lead at the break.

The Bucks opened the third with an 8-1 run, tying tie the game at 51-51 when Curry sank a 15-footer with 10 minutes left in the period. Milwaukee took a 61-60 edge when Allen hit a 16-footer with 5:23 left in the third.

But Keefe answered with a layup and Milwaukee never regained the lead. The Bucks tied it for the final time, 65-65, when Andrew Lang hit a wild hook shot with 3:48 left in the third. Malone answered with a free throw 12 seconds later and Utah took a 74-70 lead into the fourth.
