GAME RECAP

David Robinson collected 29 points and 11 rebounds and Tim Duncan added 24 and 10 as the San Antonio Spurs completed a season sweep of the Sacramento Kings with a 97-86 victory.

The Kings trailed most of the way before making a bid for the victory with a 14-2 burst late in the third quarter. Billy Owens gave Sacramento a brief 68-66 lead with a basket late in the period, but Robinson and Vinny Del Negro made buckets to put the Spurs ahead to stay.

Jaren Jackson scored seven of his 18 points in the fourth quarter as San Antonio pulled away with a 17-4 run and held on for its third straight win.

"I felt good out there. I started out hitting some shots," Jackson said. "I'm a rhythm shooter. I just want to make sure I'm contributing when I'm on the floor, whether it's offensively or defensively."

Mitch Richmond scored 22 points and Corliss Williamson added 19 for Sacramento, which dropped its third in a row and fell seven games behind Houston for the final Western Conference playoff spot.

"I just couldn't get many good looks at the basket tonight and I was looking real hard," admitted Richmond, who shot 9-of-19 from the floor but was held to four points in the second half by Jackson. I just didn't have the opportunities tonight."

Del Negro finished with nine points and dished out a season-high nine assists in the absence of point guard Avery Johnson, who missed his second straight game with a hip injury.

Robinson shot 14-of-24 from the field to highlight the Spurs' 44 percent (38-of-87) effort. After Owens' bucket gave Sacramento a 68-66 lead with 3:03 left in the third quarter, Robinson tied it with 1:32 to go with a jumper.

"I came in trying to make things happen on the blocks," said Robinson, who had five of San Antonio's 27 assists. "I knew they were going to double-team me, and they came hard, so I tried to find the other guys in the second half. They were hitting the open looks."

Poor free throw shooting cost the Kings early in the final quarter. Lawrence Funderburke, who contributed nine points off the bench, missed two shots from the line before Michael Stewart hit 1-of-2 with 9:55 left, pulling Sacramento within 72-71. Tariq Abdul-Wahad followed with two more misses from the stripe before Robinson ignited a 17-4 surge with a lay-in.

Robinson scored six points and Jackson, who drained four three-pointers, added five in the burst. Chuck Person's three-pointer with 4:09 capped the run at 89-75.

"Jaren, Vinny and Chuck all spread the floor well," said Spurs coach Gregg Popovich. "David found them and Tim had his usual good game. The group was playing well."

San Antonio, which was 7-of-17 from three-point range and 14-of-17 from the line, trails first-place Utah by 2 1/2 games in the Midwest Division.

The Kings went just 3-for-11 from three-point range while losing for the 10th time in their last 12 games.

"It's tough," said Williamson. "We played well in stretches and you have to take advantage of those opportunities. They have two great centers on that team and they put one of them at power forward. You can't expect to stop that duo all the time."
