GAME RECAP

Glen Rice and David Wesley combined for 17 points in a 19-3 run that bridged the final two quarters and helped the Charlotte Hornets set a franchise record with their 10th straight win, a 100-82 drubbing of the Orlando Magic.

Rice scored nine of his 24 points and Wesley added eight of his 16 in the burst, which turned a three-point game into a an 88-69 blowout with 10:25 left. Charlotte, which also has won a season-best five consecutive road games, is four games behind second-place Indiana and four behind Chicago in the Central Division.

Nick Anderson scored all of his 20 points in the first three quarters for Orlando, which fell a one-half game behind Washington and New Jersey into ninth place in the Eastern Conference. Horace Grant was scoreless on 0-for-5 shooting in 36 minutes for the Magic.

Anderson hit a three-pointer for his final points with 2:46 left in the third quarter before the decisive run started with a three-pointer by Wesley 65 seconds later. Rice hit a jumper to extend the lead to 74-66 before Bo Outlaw made one of two free throws for Orlando.

Rice and Outlaw traded baskets in the final minute of the third quarter, but Rice converted a three-point play with less than a second left in the period, giving Charlotte a 79-69 lead.

"If we continue playing the way we have been playing, we can set a really high winning streak," Rice said. "We have a lot of guys on this team that can dominate the inside game, and when you try and seal that down we do have the guys who are capable of lighting it up from the outside. We can do pretty much anything we want. I don't think we should be satisfied with the streak. We definitely should concentrate really hard on making that streak higher than 10."

The Hornets were 12-of-18 from the floor in the third.

J.R. Reid kicked off the fourth quarter with a slam off a fast break and Rice hit a jumper. Wesley made two free throws and his three-point play with 10:25 left capped the explosion and gave Charlotte an 88-69 lead.

Rice was 11-of-17 from the field as Charlotte shot 52 percent (44-of-85). Wesley added seven assists, while Matt Geiger contributed 19 points and six rebounds. Anthony Mason added 12 points and 15 boards as the Hornets held a 46-40 rebounding edge. Reid scored 12 points off the bench.

"I think the biggest thing during this streak has been getting Vlade (Divac) and Bobby (Phills) back," said Geiger, who was called a team leader by Rice. "They just did the little things to the game and they have been the difference for us. We have gotten that much better and that has been the difference."

Anderson was 8-of-19 from the floor as the Magic shot 39 percent (33-of-84). Danny Schayes added 17 points and nine rebounds and Outlaw had 10 and six for Orlando.

"They are playing superb and executing beautifully," Orlando coach Chuck Daly said of the Hornets. "When they play defense like they did tonight, it is tough to beat them. Last quarter, we got to 69-66, we shot 5-for-29, and fall into our percentage area. You have to keep making a couple shots to stay in the game against a club like that. We were pretty much dominated in every way."

The Magic broke out to an early 11-point lead but Charlotte rallied to make it 21-21 after one quarter. The Hornets went ahead, 52-44, at halftime behind 11 points from Rice and 10 from Geiger.

"I don't think I have ever been involved with a team that has had 10 in a row," Charlotte coach Dave Cowens said. "This is really special for us. We would like to keep going, keep building on it. We got down early and then came back, got some stops, got a lot of fast-break buckets. David Wesley has pretty much taken control of the team."
