Vinny Del Negro contributed 16 points and David Robinson had 12 of his 15 in the fourth period for the Spurs, who have won five of their last six games.

Kevin Garnett recorded 16 points and 10 rebounds and Stanley Roberts scored 15 points for Minnesota, which lost its fourth straight game. Stephon Marbury had 13 points and 12 assists for the Timberwolves, who shot just 36 percent (32-of-88) from the field and finished with a season-low point total.

Anthony Peeler, who scored nine points, pulled the Timberwolves within 70-66 when he hit a running jumper with 11:06 to play. Robinson answered with an 18-footer 27 seconds later and made two free throws at the 9:19 mark before Monty Williams sank an 18-footer for a 76-66 lead with 8:58 left. Roberts hit consecutive jumpers, with the second one pulling the Wolves within 76-70.

Duncan's layup gave San Antonio a 78-70 advantage with 7:24 remaining. Roberts hit one free throw with 7:46 left to cut the deficit to 78-71. Robinson reponded with two free throws and followed that with a 14-footer and the Wolves did not close the deficit under double digits thereafter.

Garnett had eight points in the first quarter, helping Minnesota to a 25-23 lead. Johnson and Del Negro hit back-to-back jumpers to tie the game, 29-29, with nine minutes left in the second quarter. Duncan's six-footer gave the Spurs a 31-29 edge 37 seconds later.

Minnesota tied the score three times thereafter. The final time came when Garnett's 17-footer made it 35-35 with 4:45 left in the first half. Duncan answered with a 15-footer, Jaren Jackson followed with two free throws and Johnson made a 19-footer to push the lead to 41-34 with 3:04 remaining.
