GAME RECAP

Ray Allen scored 33 points and Armon Gilliam added 29 as the Milwaukee Bucks snapped a nine-game losing streak with a 118-108 victory over the shorthanded Houston Rockets, who lost for the first time in seven games.

Elliot Perry added 16 points and 16 assists for the Bucks, who were on their longest slide since dropping a franchise-record 15 in a row from March 4th-30th, 1996. Perry was one assist shy of matching his career high while a member of the Phoenix Suns in 1994.

Hakeem Olajuwon scored 22 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for the Rockets, who played without Clyde Drexler and Charles Barkley. Drexler missed the game with a strained right groin and Barkley was sidelined with a left shoulder strain.

The Rockets, who were on their second-longest winning streak of the season, lost for the first time in four trips to the Bradley Center, dating back to February 8th, 1994. Houston won nine straight games from November 18th-December 9th.

After Othella Harrington hit a jumper to give the Rockets a 45-44 advantage, the Bucks took control with a 14-5 spurt. Ervin Johnson nailed a jumper to start the surge at the 3:37 mark and Allen capped the burst with a lay-in for a 58-50 advantage at intermission.

Milwaukee played without starters Glenn Robinson, Terrell Brandon and Tyrone Hill, who are out with injuries. The Bucks also lost swingman Michael Curry tonight with a sprained left ankle in the second quarter.

"We knew they were in the same situation we were in with Charles and Clyde (out)," Allen said. "I'm sure they felt they could grab one here. Ervin played great defense on Hakeem and with Armon all you have to do is give him the ball."

Johnson finished with 10 points and 15 rebounds and reserve Jerald Honeycutt, who had four points in the first-half spurt, tallied a career-high 19 for the Bucks. Honeycutt was the only reserve to score for Milwaukee.

Harrington led Houston's reserves with 18 points. The Rockets bench outscored Milwaukee's, 49-19.

Milwaukee started the second half the same way it ended the first. Allen drained a 17-foot jumper to trigger a 12-5 run which gave the Bucks a 70-55 advantage with 7:52 to play in the quarter. Gilliam scored 11 points in the third period as the Bucks held a 89-77 lead heading into the final period.

"They played with some urgency and we needed more on the defensive end," Houston coach Rudy Tomjanovich said. "I have to give them credit, Allen, Gilliam and Honeycutt all played well. They also outplayed us defensively. After they made their spurt in the third quarter it was all over."

The Rockets closed to 91-83 on a pair of free throws from Harrington with 10:03 to play before the Bucks put the game out of reach with a 12-2 burst.

Allen, who scored six points in the spurt, ignited the surge with four straight free throws and Gilliam capped the run with a jumper which gave the Bucks their biggest lead at 103-85 with 6:20 to go.

"I think we played extremely well tonight and over the last four games," Gilliam said. "We executed well tonight and made the extra pass."

Allen finished 13-of-23 from the field and Gilliama connected on 11-of-18 shots for Milwaukee, which shot 55 percent (46-of-84). The Rockets shot 48 percent (41-of-85).
