GAME RECAP

Bob Sura came off the bench to score 12 of his 21 points in the second quarter as the surging Cleveland Cavaliers breezed past the Orlando Magic, 93-86, for their fourth straight victory.

Sura keyed a second-quarter run that broke open the game, then helped the Cavaliers put it away in the fourth quarter. Sura entered the game shooting 28 percent from three-point range and 53 percent from the line but was 2-of-2 from behind the arc and 9-of-9 from the stripe.

"I played well and the shots were there," Sura said. "I'm trying to grip the ball differently and let it go off my fingertips. I was really happy with my free throws."

"We needed a lift from somebody tonight and Bobby Sura certainly came off the bench and did a terrific job for us," Cavaliers coach Mike Fratello said. "I can't tell you how proud I am of the way he went to the foul line and knocked down nine straight free throws."

Wesley Person had 16 points and nine rebounds and Shawn Kemp added 13 and 16 for Cleveland, which won for the eighth time in nine games and moved 1 1/2 games ahead of the seventh-place New York Knicks in the Eastern Conference playoff race. The Cavs also moved within 1 1/2 games of the fifth-place Atlanta Hawks.

"This is the first time for us that we've been 10 games over .500," Fratello said. "I don't know how many more it's going to take to qualify for the playoffs, but what ever it is let's hurry up and get it."

Derek Strong scored 17 points for the Magic, who fell into ninth place in the East, one-half game behind the New Jersey Nets. Orlando again was without high-scoring guard Nick Anderson, who sat out with a strained left hamstring.

"It was a long night for us. It looked like one of those games where we were on the road too long," Magic coach Chuck Daly said. "We had no legs and it looked like we were running in mud. We couldn't get anything going. We couldn't make a shot and they were quicker and tougher at every position."

Two free throws by Horace Grant pulled the Magic within 38-33 with 4:45 remaining in the second quarter before Sura and Kemp scored all the points in a 9-2 burst by the Cavs. Sura had five, including a drive that gave Cleveland a 47-35 bulge with 2:26 left before halftime.

The Cavs led 53-40 at halftime, shooting 45 percent (18-of-40) from the field while holding the Magic to 35 percent (13-of-37). Sura did not miss in the second quarter, making three floor shots and four free throws.

Orlando cut the deficit to 61-53 on a basket by Grant with 3:59 left in the third quarter, but Kemp made two free throws and Cedric Henderson, who finished with 13 points, scored a pair of baskets to rebuild the lead to 65-53 with 1:53 to go.

Cleveland led 70-58 entering the fourth quarter. Sura returned and made three free throws after a basket by Person, giving the Cavs their largest lead at 83-64 with 6:29 to play. The Magic pulled within six points in the final seconds.

"That's also the first time I think I hit three in a row after being fouled on a three-point attempt," Sura said. "I just wanted to come off the bench and give the team a lift."

Zydrunas Ilgauskas scored 11 points and Brevin Knight handed out 10 assists for the Cavs, who shot 44 percent (31-of-70) overall and held a 46-40 advantage on the glass.

Grant scored 14 points and Kevin Edwards added 12 for the Magic, who shot 37 percent (31-of-83) and were outscored 26-21 at the line.

"I think we just came out very tentative," Grant said. "But you have to take your hat off to the Cavs. They were aggressive and they hit some good shots."

Person scored six points in a lackluster first quarter as the Cavs took a 19-18 lead.
