Game Recap

Jim Jackson scored a season-high 33 points and Erick Dampier netted six in the decisive second-quarter burst as the Golden State Warriors notched a rare road victory with a 104-94 triumph over the injury-depleted Houston Rockets.

Jackson, who was 11-of-16 from the field, added a team-high 11 assists and Donyell Marshall totaled 21 points, 11 rebounds and six assists for the Warriors, who snapped a five-game road losing streak while improving to just 6-33 away from home this season.

"I'm proud about the 33 points, but I'm even more proud about the 11 assists," said Jackson. "This is a night that's special because everyone can feel like they contributed. Those games are the ones where everyone can be proud."

Dampier scored six points as Golden State expanded on a 39-37 edge with a 13-2 run that Jackson capped with a three-pointer with 48 seconds left in the first half.

Dampier finished with 14 points and reserve Tony Delk added nine as the Warriors shot a season-high 52 percent (38-of-73) from the field. Muggsy Bogues contributed 10 assists for Golden State, which snapped a seven-game losing streak against Houston.

"A lot of people played well tonight," said Warriors coach P.J. Carlesimo. "We shot over 50 percent from the field and 70 percent from the line and we can't play a heck of a lot better than that. This is clearly one of our best wins."

Golden State reached the 100-point mark for the first time in nine games and the second since the All-Star break.

Kevin Willis collected 24 points and Hakeem Olajuwon had 21 as Houston, playing without injured starter Clyde Drexler and reserves Charles Barkley and Rodrick Rhodes, lost its fourth straight game.

Drexler and Barkley are scheduled to return for Friday's meeting with Atlanta, but the Rockets will be without forward Matt Bullard, who left in the second quarter with a sore left achilles tendon. He will undergo an MRI Friday.

Reserves Eddie Johnson and Othella Harrington contributed 15 and 11 points, respectively, as Houston shot a paltry 41 percent (35-of-86) that encompassed an atrocious 5-of-25 performance from three-point range.

"With our talent we're supposed to beat teams that are struggling," said Johnson. "Against Golden State, if you can get up by 10, they might pack it in. Right now it'll be good to beat anybody, it doesn't matter who."

The Warriors began their deciding run with 4:45 left in the second quarter on a bucket by Marshall, who had 14 points in the first half as Golden State built a 52-41 bulge at the break.

Houston quickly fell further behind in the third quarter before pulling within 56-45 on Olajuwon's basket with 10:17 to go. Clarence Weatherspoon dashed Houston's comeback hopes, converting a three-point play that ignited a 10-2 surge.

Golden State went on to build a 20-point third-quarter cushion before the Rockets made things somewhat interesting in the final few minutes, closing within 99-92 on Emanual Davis' three-pointer with 65 seconds to play.
