Game Recap

Alan Henderson scored a career-high 39 points and Mookie Blaylock added a triple-double, including an NBA season-high 10 steals, as the Atlanta Hawks won their third straight game, a 95-94 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers.

Henderson, who shot 16-of-21 from the field, scored 10 points in the fourth quarter and 23 in the second half.

"I got the ball in some good positions," Henderson said. "I felt like I had a good rhythym going tonight. I felt good out there. A win is a win, if you win by one or 20 it doesn't matter."

Blaylock finished with 14 points, 11 assists and a career-high 10 steals, the 18th time a player reached double figures in steals since it became an official statistic in 1974. It also was the sixth career triple-double for Blaylock.

"It was a good win for us," Blaylock said. "I think we really fought through it and down the stretch we didn't give up. When you are out there you are not concerned with your numbers. You are out there trying to get the win."

The Hawks seemed in control when a three-pointer by Eldridge Recasner gave them a 94-88 advantage with 1:49 left. But Philadelphia rallied as Allen Iverson hit two free throws and a driving layup in the next 60 seconds.

Henderson made a free throw with 30 seconds to go and Theo Ratliff drew the 76ers within 95-94 with an eight-foot hook shot with 26 seconds to go. Recasner missed a layup with 18 seconds left and Philadelphia ran a play for Derrick Coleman, who missed a 15-footer. Mark Davis ran down the rebound with 1.5 seconds remaining but Blaylock stripped him of the ball as time expired.

"I got a great look at the basket," Coleman said. "I tried to look at the clock but it was messed up. I got a great look but just didn't knock the shot down."

"Mookie has been terrific," Atlanta coach Lenny Wilkens said. "He does a lot of things. He gets big rebounds and gets to the basket a whole lot better and makes big shots. He had a terrific game."

Iverson scored 26 points and Coleman added 20 for the 76ers, who have dropped three in a row and reached 50 losses for the sixth straight season.

"It was frustrating," said 76ers coach Larry Brown. "They made plays, they made shots when the clock was winding down. We were down six and still came back and had a chance to win. I'll take Coleman's percentage on that shot. Mark Davis got the rebound but Blaylock just made a great strip."

Henderson scored 12 and Tyrone Corbin eight as Atlanta led 22-19 after 12 minutes. A 9-2 run midway through the second quarter pushed the Hawks' advantage to 33-25. But the 76ers closed the half strong and managed a 41-41 tie at the break.

Henderson scored 13 points in the third quarter as the Hawks took a 72-67 lead into the final period, but Philadelphia closed to 83-82 with 6:24 remaining. Recasner buried a 17-footer off a feed from Blaylock, who added two free throws to push the advantage to 87-82 with 5:09 to go.

Ratliff had all 10 of his points in the fourth quarter and finished with 12 rebounds. The 76ers, who held a 44-32 advantage on the boards, offset that edge by committing 20 turnovers and getting to the line just 15 times.

The Hawks, which recorded 26 assists on 36 baskets, and the 76ers had eight blocks apiece.
