Game Recap

Jim Jackson scored 25 points and Tony Delk added eight of his 22 in the fourth quarter as the Golden State Warriors rallied for an 88-82 victory over the Dallas Mavericks to post back-to-back wins for the first time in nearly two months.

Erick Dampier contributed 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Warriors, who snapped a five-game losing streak with a 92-80 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday. They have won consecutive games for the first time since defeating Charlotte and Denver on February 18th and 20th. They also recorded a sweep of games on back-to-back nights for the first time in 20 attempts this season.

"The last couple of games we have tried to come out and be a winner and this could very well affect the draft pick that we get," Dampier said. "We just wanted to come out and try to win these last three games. These games could have a large effect on how well this team does next year."

Trailing 80-78 with 4:37 to go, Golden State ended the game with a 10-2 run. Dampier gave the Warriors the lead for good with a three-point play before Clarence Weatherspoon added a layup. Hubert Davis, who scored 10 of his 16 points in the final period, buried a jumper to cut the Mavericks' deficit to 83-82 with 1:28 to play. But Delk answered with a jumper and, after Jackson hit a layup, added a foul shot in the waning seconds to help seal the win.

"I thought we had to be aggressive from the outside," Delk said. "Once they doubled, there was a lot of open shots and the key was just to make them."

Michael Finley came close to what would have been his second straight triple-double, finishing with 20 points, nine assists and eight rebounds. But Dallas still suffered its fourth straight road loss and sixth defeat in its last seven games overall.

"I'm just trying to go out and motivate these guys to give 110 percent effort everyday," Finley explained. "If I have a lackluster attitude, it's going to carry over to the team. My main objective is to bring this team together and win games."

This game pitted two of the league's six teams that have recorded 60 or more losses this season. Dallas (20-61) and Golden State (18-63) have combined to win three fewer games than Houston, which owns the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

The Mavericks were within 26-25 through one period. But Delk buried an 18-footer to cap a 13-4 run to give Golden State a 49-35 lead late in the second quarter.

"The people that played in the second quarter didn't get it done," Mavs coach Don Nelson said. "I think some came into tonight feeling that the season's over. In the second quarter, they played like the season's over. It's not over. The season's over after tomorrow."

Dallas trailed 54-39 early in the third when Finley hit a short jumper to spark a 12-2 spurt. A.C. Green capped that run with two free throws with 5:56 left to pull the Mavs within 56-51.

A foul shot by Shawn Bradley tied the game, 62-62, but Delk and Jackson answered with back-to-back jumpers to give Golden State a four-point edge heading into the fourth quarter. Finley hit a jumper and a free throw before feeding Shawn Respert for a jumper to give Dallas its final lead, 80-78.

Green registered 14 points and 14 boards for Dallas, which shot just 39.5 percent (34-of-86) and lost the season series to the Warriors, 3-1.

Muggsy Bogues chipped in 10 points and six assists as Golden State shot 42.5 percent (37-of-87) to earn its seventh straight home win against the Mavericks.

"We shot a little bit better than Dallas. In the past, the difference is that we've played better but our opponents also did," Warriors coach P.J. Carlesimo said. "We worked hard to win two in a row."
