Game Recap

Grant Hill narrowly missed a triple-double for the second straight game as the Detroit Pistons pulled away in the final 2 1/2 minutes for a 108-102 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks.

Hill finished with 31 points, 12 rebounds and nine assists for Detroit, which won for just the third time in its last games. In Wednesday's win over Chicago, Hill collected 17 points, 12 assists and nine rebounds.

Former Piston Michael Curry scored a career-high 25 points and Ray Allen also had 25 for the Bucks, who lost for the third time in the last four games.

"It was fun," Hill said. "Mike Curry was hot. He was really playing well, shooting well. It was just like practice last year. He'd come at me, I'd come at him. Ultimately I'd prevail."

"It was a real well-played ballgame," Milwaukee coach Chris Ford said. "It came down to the end. The Pistons played very well down the stretch, particularly Grant Hill and Jerry Stackhouse. As far as us, it was great to see Michael Curry get his career high against his former team."

Detroit veteran guard Joe Dumars, who announced prior to the game that he would return for his 14th season, tied former teammate Isiah Thomas for the team record for games played with 979.

Neither team led by more than four points until the game's final 1:35. The Pistons were clinging to a one-point lead with under three minutes to go before than ran off seven straight points.

Brian Williams dunked for a 99-96 lead with 2:22 to play and Stackhouse buried a three-pointer for a six-point cushion with 1:35 left. Lindsey Hunter followed with a steal and layup to extend the lead to 104-96 with 1:24 to go.

Allen knocked down a jumper to cut the lead to six, and after a free throw by Jerome Williams, Terrell Brandon hit a jumper to slice the deficit to five points. But Hunter made a free throw and Stackhouse followed with a dunk to push the lead to 108-100 with 29 seconds to go.

"Too bad we only have one left to play," Detroit coach Alvin Gentry said. "I thought it was an overall great team effort. I think with the character of this team, when we walk out on the court we're going to try to win. We don't worry about lottery implications. We've been heartbroken so many times over the last few weeks that any win we can get is a good win and that's what we're playing for."

The game was tied at 30 after one quarter before Allen scored 10 points in the second period as the Bucks brought a 55-52 lead into halftime. Detroit cut it to 82-80 entering the fourth quarter.

Stackhouse finished with 27 points and Jerome Williams added 13 and 10 rebounds for the Pistons, who shot 48 percent (38-of-79) from the field and held a 42-35 rebounding edge. Brian Williams added 12 points.

Armon Gilliam scored 22 points and Brandon had 14 for the Bucks, who shot 49 percent (40-of-82).
