Game Story

OAKLAND, California (Ticker) -- Rookie Antawn Jamison's tip-in with four seconds remaining proved to be the difference as the Golden State Warriors snapped a seven-game losing streak against the Minnesota Timberwolves with a 101-99 victory.

Stephon Marbury hit a leaner in the lane to bring the Timberwolves even at 99-99 with 34 seconds remaining, and on the ensuing possession, the Warriors received a new shot clock following a kicked ball violation.

Donyell Marshall unleashed an air ball from the right corner but Terry Cummings got the rebound and put up a follow shot that Jamison tipped in to give the Warriors the lead for good. Minnesota had one last chance to tie but Sam Mitchell's jumper as time expired hit the side of the rim.

Jamison scored a season-high 21 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the Warriors, who have won consecutive games following an 0-5 start. Golden State also beat the Timberwolves for the first time since November 12, 1996.

"It was a good feeling. Right now, we think we should have more than two wins," commented Jamison. It feels really good to get back-to-back wins. This team is sending a message that we're ready to play."

Kevin Garnett scored 29 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Minnesota, which was denied its first 5-1 start in team history.

"Overall, our defense was pretty good," Minnesota coach Flip Saunders said. "We forced a miss and a second miss. We just couldn't get that last rebound. They made the play, got to the boards and Jamison made the play to win."

The Warriors took a 95-91 lead with 3:35 left after Jamison converted two free throws. But Marbury and Garnett each hit a pair of free throws to knot the score with 2:55 remaining.

Erick Dampier hit a foul shot and John Starks nailed a running jumper to put the Warriors ahead, 98-95 with 1:58 left before Garnett's dunk 12 seconds later cut the deficit to one. Jamison hit 1-of-2 free throws to make it 99-97 before Marbury sank his jumper to knot the score. Marbury finished with 12 points and 10 assists.

Jamison had his best game as a pro, finishing 7-of-8 from the floor and 6-of-9 from the free throw line.

"It's been a long time coming," Jamison said. "These guys have been letting me know that everybody struggles. Last night, my shots weren't going in, tonight they were. It's a confidence booster for myself and for him (P.J. Carlesimo) to have the confidence in me to get the job done."

The Warriors held a 16-12 lead in the first quarter, but Starks nailed a jumper to fuel a 16-4 burst that closed the quarter. Golden State took its biggest lead at 41-21 after Jamison drilled a 3-pointer with 8:31 to play before intermission.

But Minnesota got back in it with a 15-5 spurt, capped by Dean Garrett's dunk to draw within 46-36 with 4:16 left before the half. Garrett finished with 22 points on 11-of-14 shooting and also grabbed nine rebounds.

Trailing 55-49 at the half, the Wolves started the second half with a 13-4 burst to take a 62-59 lead with 6:18 left in the period, capped by Garrett's dunk. Garrett had six points in the surge.

Dampier recorded a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds and Tony Delk had 17 points for the Warriors, who shot 48 percent (36-of-75).
