Game Story

DALLAS (Ticker) -- Tim Duncan scored 26 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as the San Antonio Spurs continued their mastery over the Dallas Mavericks with a 95-79 victory.

The Spurs have reeled off eight straight wins against the Mavericks, including four in a row at Reunion Arena.

David Robinson had 20 points and eight rebounds and Jaren Jackson added a season-high 16 points off the bench for the Spurs (8-8), who have posted back-to-back wins to climb back to .500 in what has been an inconsistent season.

"(Duncan and Robinson) are starting to look like they looked together last year after the first quarter of the season," San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich said. "It is something we need because the offense is based around them. They did an excellent job."

Gary Trent scored 14 points and Michael Finley and rookie Dirk Nowitzki both added 11 for Dallas, which had a four-game home winning streak snapped.

"They made us look bad tonight," Dallas coach Don Nelson said. "They are playing at their capabilities and we caught them at the wrong time."

The Mavericks pulled within 46-39 on Samaki Walker's jumper with 5:33 left in the third quarter, but Robinson sandwiched a jumper between a 3-pointer and a pair of free throws by Jackson, opening a 53-39 bulge with 4:15 remaining.

"Jaren played really well," Spurs guard Steve Kerr said. "He was struggling early in the season and now he's really starting to shoot the ball."

Avery Johnson handed out 10 assists for the Spurs, who were without the services of forward Mario Elie due to an injured hamstring.

"Even though this is a win that we thought we should have, there are not guarantees and we still had to go out and really play against Dallas," Johnson said. "Hopefully, we cant just get going. Pop(ovich) told us that the preseason is over and now we need to get going."

Walker scored 10 points for the Mavs, who shot 42 percent (32-of-76) and yielded 29 points off 18 turnovers.

The Spurs used a 43-36 rebounding edge to produce a 42-20 advantage in points in the paint.

Sean Elliot's jumper put San Antonio ahead for good, 7-6, and sparked a 13-2 run that gave the Spurs an 18-10 lead after one quarter.

The Mavericks came back in the second, pulling within 32-31 on Robert Pack's driving layup with 2:39 left. But Duncan hit a seven-foot hook shot and Jackson drained a jumper from the left corner with two ticks remaining to give the Spurs a 36-31 lead at the half.

"Tonight, it was tough for us to handle their inside game," Pack said. "They played very well tonight and it was tough. We tried our best and it just didn't work out."

Dallas (6-11) failed in its attempt to win five straight home games for the first time since the 1994-95 season.
