Game Story

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (Ticker) -- Even a trip north of the border could not help the road woes of the Denver Nuggets.

Rookie Mike Bibby scored 20 points and handed out 10 assists as the Vancouver Grizzlies seized control in the second half and kept the Nuggets winless away from home with a 101-87 victory.

Bibby scored 12 points in the second half as the Grizzlies outscored Denver 55-39 over the final 24 minutes to snap a five-game losing streak and win for just the second time in their last 20 games.

Nick Van Exel collected 29 points and 11 assists to lead the Nuggets, who dropped to 0-15 on the road. Since winning at Washington on March 17, 1998, they have dropped 22 in a row outside of Colorado, matching the second-longest road skid in franchise history.

Last season, Denver also lost 22 straight on the road, where it was 2-39. The Nuggets have won just twice in their last 61 road games. Their worst road skid was a 25-game drought from February 25-November 27, 1991.

The frustration for Denver seemed to boil over in the fourth quarter. Antonio McDyess, Danny Fortson and coach Mike D'Antoni all were ejected for arguing foul calls.

Van Exel scored 16 points on 7-of-12 shooting in the first half to help the Nuggets to a 48-46 lead. But Vancouver used a 15-8 spurt, capped by Cherokee Parks' lay-in, to take a 61-56 advantage with six minutes left in the third quarter.

Parks scored 12 of his 14 points and Bibby had 10 in in the period, giving Vancouver a 76-70 advantage entering the final 12 minutes.

"It really helps when everybody is hitting their shots," Bibby said. "I can really get a lot of assists and put up some big numbers on nights like this. But of course, it's all a team game and I thought everyone had a great one."

Vancouver began the fourth quarter by scoring 12 of the first 18 points, opening a 12-point cushion with 4:41 to play. Shareef Abdur-Rahim, who scored 22 points, capped the run by making a pair of technical free throws.

Abdur-Rahim went to the line after McDyess was whistled for a pair of technicals for arguing a foul call. McDyess scored 22 points on 10-of-18 shooting before being ejected.

"I don't curse at all. I did after he (Marc Davis) ejected me, though," McDyess said. "I said, `This must be your first year' and then he said, `Don't say another word.' I said, `It must be your first year.' He gave me a tech and I clapped my hands and said `Good.' He threw me out of the game and then I started swearing."

Van Exel converted a pair of foul shots with 2:22 to go, bringing the Nuggets within 90-83. But they would get no closer.

Fortson and D'Antoni were sent to the locker room with 1:53 to play after questioning a double-foul call. Fortson and Vancouver's Tony Massenburg became entangled and both were whistled for technicals.

Forston questioned the call and was tossed from the contest. He left with 10 points and 14 rebounds. It was also Massenburg's second technical of the game, resulting in his ejection. He finished with 18 points.

"We had to have a team meeting and I figured all my team was in the locker room at that point, so it was the best place to end up to talk to them," D'Antoni said.

The Grizzlies scored the next seven points from the line to take their biggest lead at 97-83 with 1:38 to go.

Abdur-Rahim did his damage from the line, making 11-of-14 shots. As a team, Vancouver converted 26-of-38 foul shots.

"I think it's a very solid game when all five players can get into double figures," Abdur-Rahim said. "It's very nice to be productive from everywhere. We played a lot more together tonight."

Bibby connected on 9-of-14 shots as the Grizzlies shot 53 percent (37-of-70). Denver finished at 45 percent (35-of-78).

Rookie Felipe Lopez added 12 points for Vancouver.
