Game Story

SACRAMENTO, California (Ticker) -- Chris Webber recorded his league-leading 32nd double-double of the season with 23 points and 11 rebounds as the Sacramento Kings defeated the Denver Nuggets, 110-104.

Vlade Divac added 21 points and 15 rebounds for the Kings, who had seven players score in double figures. Sacramento has won six of its last seven against Denver.

Denver scored seven straight points, pulling within 106-103 on a steal and 3-point play by Chauncey Billups with 33 seconds left. Rookie Jason Williams hit 1-of-2 foul shots with 32 seconds to go, putting Sacramento ahead by four.

The Nuggets pulled down four offensive rebounds on the ensuing possession. But on the fifth shot, Antonio McDyess touched Danny Fortson's layup while it was above the rim and drew an offensive goaltending call with 11 seconds left.

Jon Barry and Eric Washington traded free throws before Predrag Stojakovic hit two in the closing seconds to provide the final margin. Sacramento is 1 1/2 games behind Seattle for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

"This is a great win for us," Sacramento coach Rick Adelman said. "Their guards got it going and we knew they would play pick and roll. We knew they were going to post McDyess and we knew they were going to push it."

"Every game for us from know on is big," Divac said. "So we have to go out and take care of the home court. We made a lot of mistakes in the first half allowing them to shoot their shots. It was those shots that kept them in the game until the end."

Sacramento improved to 14-4 when scoring at least 100 points this season.

Nick Van Exel scored 29 points and Fortson added 22 and 17 rebounds for the Nuggets, who have dropped eight of their last 12 outings.

Denver hurt themselves in the second half, hitting just 35 percent (18-of-52) of its field goals.

"In the second half we did not shoot the ball well and on the ones we did get off, we just didn't shoot them good," Nuggets coach Mike D'Antoni said. "I thought we had a chance to win down the stretch and on the road that is what you want to do.

Denver went on an 11-5 run to go ahead 49-41 with 5:50 left in the second quarter. Eric Washington buried a trio of 3-pointers in that spurt. Sacramento scored the next 11 points over three minutes -- five by Divac -- to grab a 52-49 advantage.

The Kings trailed by one in the third quarter but used a 13-4 spurt to grab an 82-74 lead with 1:47 remaining. Webber and Corliss Williamson scored four points apiece.
