Game Story

MILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- Ray Allen scored a season-high 31 points and helped the Milwaukee Bucks solve the stifling defense of the Miami Heat and defeat them at home for the first time in more than six years, 98-86.

Glenn Robinson contributed 29 points as the Bucks snapped a 12-game home losing streak in the series, defeating the Heat in Milwaukee for the first time since December 2, 1992. The Bucks had dropped five in a row and 22 of the last 23 meetings overall with Miami.

"We played them close two times before and we knew we had a good shot at taking these guys at home," Robinson said. "We had it going and we hit some big shots. That's the way we have to play."

Allen scored 19 points in the second half, when the Bucks were in control and did not allow Miami to get closer than the final margin. The Bucks took a 49-35 halftime lead behind 14 first-half points from Robinson.

"Glenn and I were putting a lot of pressure on ourselves to perform with what's gone on with the trades and now we really feel comfortable offensively and defensively," Allen said.

"We've never had a game where Glenn and Ray had a great game at the same time," said Bucks coach George Karl. "We had one tonight. They were difficult for Miami to figure out."

Four days after holding Chicago to an NBA record-low 49 points, Miami allowed an opponent to break 95 points for only the third time all season. The Heat, who hold opponents under 40 percent from the field on the season, watched the Bucks shoot 48 percent (36-of-75).

While Milwaukee jumped into fourth place in the Eastern Conference, Miami remained two games behind Orlando for first place in the East.

Alonzo Mourning had 30 points and 10 rebounds to pace the Heat, who were yielding a league-low 83.1 points coming into this game. Miami had a six-game winning streak snapped.

"We had opportunities, but didn't take advantage of them," Mourning said. "We were stopping them early but they were scoring off their second shots, which killed us."

Miami owned a 39-36 edge on the glass but Milwaukee had a 22-7 edge in second-chance points.

The Bucks took command with a 13-2 burst to start the second period, breaking open a one-point game. Dell Curry had two 3-pointers and scored eight of his 12 points in that run, which gave Milwaukee a 36-24 lead.

Mourning's free throw had the Heat within 40-31 with 4:06 left in the quarter, but Allen answered with a 3-pointer and the Bucks maintained a double-digit lead the rest of the way. That basket also sparked a 9-2 spurt, highlighted by Robinson's tip-in, to build a 49-33 bulge before Tim Hardaway hit a jumper at the buzzer.

Hardaway scored 18 points for the Heat, who committed 16 turnovers that led to 26 points for the Bucks. Milwaukee had just eight turnovers and led by as many as 24 points in the second half.

"Every turnover turned into points for them," said Heat coach Pat Riley. "They basically had a zone that wouldn't allow us to run our plays. They did a good job of taking us out of our offense and we dug ourselves too deep of a hole."
