Game StoryINGLEWOOD, California (Ticker) -- Sparked by reserves Robert Horry and rookie Tyronn Lue, the Los Angeles Lakers snapped a three-game losing streak with a 117-102 victory over the lowly Vancouver Grizzlies.
Horry scored nine of his season-high 17 points in the fourth quarter and Lue had eight of his season-best 15 in the period as the Lakers outscored Vancouver, 36-22, over the final 12 minutes.
Shaquille O'Neal scored 25 of his 35 points and Glen Rice added for the Lakers, who remained 1 1/2 games behind Houston for fourth place in the Western Conference.
"We have to come to play every night," O'Neal said. "Every team that plays us, plays well. They're always hitting shots and coming to play hard. Because of that, we have to limit our mistakes. The playoffs are coming and that's no time to be making mistakes."
After losing to Grizzlies for the first time in club history earlier this season, the Lakers have rebounded to win the last two meetings between the teams. They improved to 14-1 in the all-time series, including 8-0 at home.
Tony Massenburg tallied a season-high 28 points and rookie Felipe Lopez matched a season-high 23 for the Grizzlies, who have lost six straight overall and 17 in a row on the road. They are 1-20 on the road this season.
The Grizzlies are an NBA-worst 7-35, one-half game behind the Los Angeles Clippers.
Despite facing the worst team in the league, the Lakers held just a one-point lead entering the fourth quarter. But O'Neal scored eight points and Horry capped a 13-4 surge with a dunk that put the Lakers up 94-84 with 7:52 remaining.
O'Neal went 15-of-25 from the floor and Horry was 7-of-12 from the floor as the Lakers shot 53 percent (43-of-81).
The Grizzlies answered with an 8-2 spurt, capped by rookie Mike Bibby's jumper to close to 98-94 with 4:17 remaining. Bibby finished 12 points.
However, O'Neal had a dunk and Rice scored four straight points from the free throw line, putting the Lakers ahead 104-94 with 3:52 to play. The closest the Grizzlies got thereafter was eight points.
"Yeah, we were able to get it back to four," Vancouver coach Brian Hill said. "Our character isn't an issue. There's plenty of character on this team. This team's not going to give up, they're not going to quit despite all that's happened to us ... our record, and the time of year it is."
Massenburg, who finished 10-of-16 from the floor, scored 14 points and Shareef Abdur-Rahim had 12 of his 17 in a high-scoring first half in which the Grizzlies had a 60-56 advantage at intermission.
Lopez went 10-of-14 from the floor as the Grizzlies shot 48 percent (38-of-80).
Rookie Ruben Patterson also contributed a season-high 11 points off the bench for the Laker reserves that outscored the Vancouver bench, 43-22.
"Robert, Ty, Ruben...they all did an excellent job coming off the bench, huge sparks from all of them," Los Angeles coach Kurt Rambis said. "That one unit got on a nice little roll and they were rewarded with extra time."
