Game StoryLOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- Maurice Taylor scored seven of his career-high 29 points in overtime as the Los Angeles Clippers posted a wild 106-101 victory over the Houston Rockets after blowing a 19-point lead in the final nine minutes of regulation.
Rookie Michael Dickerson's dunk pulled Houston within one, but Taylor's slam gave the Clippers a 101-98 lead with 30 seconds remaining in the extra period.
Eric Piatkowski, who added 28 points, made four free throws in the final nine seconds to clinch the victory and snap the Clippers' three-game losing streak.
Piatkowski also had seven in the extra period, including a pair from the line that gave Los Angeles a 104-98 lead with 8.8 seconds remaining.
"This was one of our most important games because it proves that our youth doesn't hurt us regardless of who we play, as long as we stay together," Piatkowski said.
"It's good to see the players get rewarded for their effort and not fall short at the end," Los Angeles coach Chris Ford added. "The win was good for the players and fans as well."
Houston's Scottie Pippen had a triple-double with 23 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists two days after his arrest on a charge of driving while intoxicated. He drilled a 3-pointer with 27 seconds remaining in regulation to give the Rockets an 87-86 lead.
Charles Barkley made two free throws 13 seconds later to extend Houston's advantage to 89-86, but Troy Hudson hit a 3-pointer from the right wing with eight seconds to play to force overtime.
"Coach has a lot of confidence in me, so I knew he was going to call my number and I was mentally prepared for it," Hudson said. "I was happy when the shot went in, but not surprised."
The Clippers opened a 78-59 lead on two free throws by Piatkowski with 9:09 remaining before the Rockets charged back with a 30-11 run.
"The positive is that we didn't lay down and made a comeback," Houston coach Rudy Tomjanovich said. "The negative is why are we having to come back."
Barkley scored 24 points and Hakeem Olajuwon added 18 for the Rockets, who had their lead over the Los Angeles Lakers cut to just a half-game in the battle for home-court advantage in the first round of the playoffs.
"It was a tough loss tonight, just very frustrating," Barkley added. "We've got to resign ourselves that every time we play, the other team really wants to beat us. Everybody is getting up for us right now."
Houston has lost seven of 12 following a season-high eight-game winning streak. This disappointing defeat comes two days after the Rockets were stunned at home by Dallas, 109-95.
"Darn right, I'm concerned," Tomjanovich said. "But we need to keep doing what we've been doing, working our butts off trying to get this turned around."
Piatkowski's layup gave the Clippers an 83-67 lead with 5:11 remaining, but the Rockets ripped off a 12-0 run, pulling within 83-79 on Dickerson's dunk with 2:52 to play.
Piatkowski hit a technical called against Olajuwon and Taylor coverted a pair from the line, pushing the Clippers' lead to 86-79 with 2:30 remaining.
Pippen hit three foul shots and and Olajuwon drained a 3-pointer, cutting the Clippers' advantage to 86-85 with 1:08 left.
After Sherman Douglas missed a jumper for Los Angeles, Pippen gave the Rockets their first lead since early in the first quarter.
Following Hudson's game-tying 3-pointer, Pippen had a chance to put the Rockets ahead again as he drove the right baseline, but his shot was blocked by Hudson.
Houston turned the ball over with two seconds left as rookie Bryce Drew slipped and stepped out of bounds.
The Clippers had an opportunity to win in regulation, again getting the ball to Hudson. But this time, his fallaway jumper came up short at the buzzer.
