Game Story

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (Ticker) -- The Vancouver Grizzlies know there isn't much to their history, so they're trying to do something about it.

The Grizzlies used the best shooting half in franchise history to roll to the most one-sided win in franchise history, a 109-89 rout of the Los Angeles Clippers.

Michael Dickerson scored a season-high 23 points and Othella Harrington added 20 for Vancouver (3-3), which matched its start of last season, the best in club annals. The Grizzlies never have been at or above .500 after six games.

"We have to commit ourselves to play that way all the time," Grizzlies forward Shareef Abdur-Rahim said. "I think when we do that, that's when we've turned the corner."

"You've never turned the corner unless you get 10 points over .500," said Grizzlies veteran forward Antoine Carr, who came off the injured list before the game.

Rookie Lamar Odom had 16 points and 12 rebounds for the Clippers (1-5), who opened a five-game road trip by becoming a victim of Vancouver once again. In four-plus seasons in the league, the Grizzlies are 8-9 against the Clippers and 59-243 against every other team.

"We came in a little too confident," Odom said.

The Grizzlies shot 71 percent (25-of-35) from the field in the second half and 57 percent (45-of-79) overall. Previously, they twice had won games by 16 points, including a victory over the Clippers on April 7, 1998.

"I thought the biggest thing tonight was our guys answered the bell after the last game (a loss to Golden State)," Grizzlies coach Brian Hill said.

Abdur-Rahim had another solid all-around game with 19 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds. Brent Price added 13 points and Mike Bibby 10 for the Grizzlies.

"Reef is really concentrating hard," Hill said. "I think the key is he's really comfortable with the guys he's playing with."

The Grizzlies led 47-42 at halftime and opened the third period with a 14-4 burst sparked by Dickerson's five points. They opened a 61-46 lead on two free throws by Harrington with 7:53 left.

The Clippers cut the deficit to nine points before Vancouver went on an 11-3 run, building a 76-59 lead on a fast-break dunk by Dickerson with 2:18 remaining in the period. Bibby had a pair of jumpers and an assist in the burst.

Dickerson's running jumper gave Vancouver its largest lead at 103-76 with 4:07 to play.

"I think we're capable of playing like this all the time," said Dickerson, who made 10-of-17 shots.

Michael Olowokandi collected 14 points and 11 rebounds for the Clippers, who shot 41 percent (33-of-81) and committed 21 turnovers.

Clippers forward Maurice Taylor twisted his ankle in the first quarter and did not return. Coach Chris Ford wants him to return to Los Angeles for tests but Taylor said he is OK to play the rest of the trip.

"We got off to a great start but when Mo got hurt it kind of let the air out of our bubble," Ford said. "We're a young team and you never know how a young team is going to respond."

"Everyone to a man, including myself, needs to work a whole lot harder," Taylor said.

Vancouver got off to a slow start but got back in it with a 12-2 run. Abdur-Rahim's layup capped the spurt and pulled the Grizzlies within 29-28 with 8:47 left before halftime and they took the lead for good on Price's 3-pointer just under five minutes later.
