Game StoryPHILADELPHIA (Ticker) -- Alonzo Mourning had 27 points and 14 rebounds as the Miami Heat ended the Philadelphia 76ers' 10-game home winning streak with a 98-93 victory.
Mourning made 11-of-18 shots from the field and blocked three shots before fouling out with 30 seconds left in the fourth quarter. Miami outrebounded Philadelphia, 54-44, and defeated the 76ers for the ninth time in 11 meetings.
"This performance is reminiscent of the Miami Heat of old," Mourning said. "We found a way to win and dug down deep. (Coach Pat Riley) told us that we have to play well in the fourth qaurter. We always get a strong start, but never seem to finish. Tonight we were able to finish strong."
Jamal Mashburn scored 19 points and Tim Hardaway added 17 and seven assists for the Heat, who have won four straight on the road.
"We played good defensively," Hardaway said. "When they missed their shots we got it down the court and made it happen. We're a confident team. We feel we can play well under any circumstance and do the things we have to do to win. They came back at us, but we sustained their pressure."
George Lynch scored 26 points and Allen Iverson added 24 for Philadelphia, which lost at home for the first time since an 85-80 defeat against the Cleveland Cavaliers on April 2. It was just the second time this season that Iverson has not led his team in scoring. He had 11 points, on just 4-for-20 shooting, in an 84-80 loss at Phoenix on November 4.
"We had a chance to win the game," said Iverson, who shot just 30 percent (8-for-27) tonight. "We had a lot of opportunities, in fact at one point we were even up by one. I couldn't get it done tonight. There were periods in the fourth quarter that were set up specifically for me. I just couldn't step it up. I missed a lot of wide-open shots."
Philadelphia's only lead came at 72-71 when Billy Owens had a tip-in 72 seconds into the fourth. Duane Causwell answered with a hook shot for his only points and Voshon Lenard followed with a layup to put the Heat up, 75-72.
P.J. Brown had 11 points and 12 rebounds for Miami, which has won six of its last seven games overall.
Philadelphia had a chance to tie the game, but Lynch made 1-of-2 free throws with 4:46 left and Miami held an 81-80 edge. Mourning came down and converted a three-point play to push Miami's lead to 84-80. Mourning blocked Lynch's shot, beginning a fast break that ended with Dan Majerle's layup for a six-point cushion with 3:33 to go.
"They defended us well," said Philadelphia coach Larry Brown. "We didn't take good shots. Alonzo completely dominated the game. He was incredible in the first half, but we hung in there. I told the guys afterward how proud I was of them. We kept battling and gave ourselves a chance to win the game. We had a chance to win a game that realistically I didn't think we had a prayer of winning."
Iverson made consecutive running jumpers to pull the Sixers within 86-84 with 2:13 left. But Brown answered with a short jumper and Mashburn followed with a pair of free throws for a 90-84 lead with 80 seconds to go.
Mourning scored 10 points in the first quarter to help Miami to a 29-24 lead. He had five points in a 9-1 burst that he capped with a seven-footer to give the Heat their biggest lead of the game, 50-35, with three minutes left in the second quarter.
