Game StoryMINNEAPOLIS (Ticker) -- Rookie Lamar Odom scored 13 of his 22 points in the fourth quarter as the Los Angeles Clippers snapped a four-game losing streak and picked up their first road win of the season with an 89-85 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Minnesota took a 79-70 lead on two free throws by Malik Sealy with 6:51 left in the fourth quarter. But the Clippers went on a 17-4 run over the next 6:03, led by Odom with seven points and Eric Murdock's six.
Los Angeles took its first lead of the quarter at 84-83 when Michael Olowokandi made two free throws with 1:40 remaining. Murdock converted a three-point play to give the Clippers an 87-83 lead with 49 seconds remaining.
Joe Smith hit a 15-foot jumper to cut the lead to 87-85 with 39 seconds to go, but Odom made a one-handed running jumper with 16 seconds remaining to seal the victory.
"He (Odom) took Garnett off the dribble, and Kevin is a tremendous athlete and defensive player," Los Angeles coach Chris Ford said. "You had two great players going up against each other and Lamar happened to make the shot. Kevin did everything he possibly could to stop him."
Tyrone Nesby scored a season-high 20 points for Los Angeles (2-6), which made 7-for-12 shots in the fourth quarter.
Garnett scored 23 points, but only two in the final quarter, and tied a career-high with 20 rebounds. Sealy added 17 off the bench for Minnesota (3-2), which shot 39 percent (35-of-90) from the field, including 6-for-21 in the fourth quarter.
"Tonight is probably as bad a night as I've had in this place," Minnesota coach Flip Saunders said. "We just didn't move the ball, and that's the strength of our team. We got in a situation where the game got close and we tightened up. Instead of moving the ball and making plays, we tried to make too many things happen, and not play pro basketball."
The Timberwolves had their three-game winning streak snapped.
Rookie Wally Szczerbiak scored 10 of his 11 points in the third quarter as Minnesota took a 70-61 lead into the final period.
The Timberwolves took their largest lead of the game at 77-66 when Bobby Jackson hit one of two free throws with 7:59 left.
But Los Angeles went on a 9-2 run over the next 3:10 as Odom scored four points and Murdock had three, including a free throw that cut Minnesota's lead to 79-75 with 4:49 remaining.
"We were unraveled," Ford said. "We weren't getting back in transition, we were falling down on the offensive end and stumbling and then all of a sudden with a couple timeouts, we got back on track. You have to really hand it to them."
Murdock and Olowokandi scored 16 points apiece for Los Angeles, which overcame 40 percent (31-of-77) shooting and was outscored in the paint, on second-chance points and on the break.
