Chicago (1-7) at LA Lakers (7-3) 10:30 pm EST ---------------------------------------------------------------- LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- The woeful Chicago Bulls continue their seven-game road trip tonight when they visit the Los Angeles Lakers, who open a four-game homestand.
Chicago's dismal squad rolled into Phoenix on Wednesday and left with a 105-81 loss to the Suns, falling to 0-2 on the trip. Elton Brand tallied 19 points as leading scorer Toni Kukoc sat out for a second straight game with with back spasms.
Chicago joins, Charlotte, Atlanta, Washington and New Jersey as the Eastern Conference squads that have not won a road game this season. The Bulls have lost four road contests by an average of 16.5 points.
Los Angeles fell for just the second time in four games Thursday with a 93-82 setback against Denver. Shaquille O'Neal scored 36 points, but was just 2-of-14 from the foul line and is just 32 percent (32-of-100) for the season.
O'Neal is averaging 31.0 points over his last three contests since returning from a one-game suspenion following an altercation with Charles Barkley of Houston. O'Neal is fourth in the league averaging 25.3 points per game.
This is the first meeting between these squads following the retirement of Michael Jordan since they did not play in the lockout-shortened season. These teams split two contests during the 1997-98 season.
