Game Story

AUBURN HILLS, Michigan (Ticker) -- Grant Hill had 28 points and 10 rebounds and Jerry Stackhouse added 26 and six as the Detroit Pistons put together consecutive wins for the first time this season with a 101-90 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Hill made 9-of-19 shots from the floor and 10-of-10 free throw attempts as the Pistons won for the fourth time in six games following their worst start in 19 years (0-4). Stackhouse has scored at least 20 points in all but two games this season.

Detroit dominated the boards, outrebounding Cleveland, 53-35. The Pistons held the Cavaliers to 42 points in the first half and 39 percent (33-for-84) shooting for the game.

Christian Laettner had 15 points and nine rebounds and Jerome Williams contributed 11 and 10 in 33 minutes off the bench for Detroit. Guard Lindsey Hunter totaled 11 points, eight rebounds and seven assists.

"Everybody's making a big panic about how we started out," said Hunter. "The guys have pulled together and that has made a big difference."

The Pistons have won three of the last four meetings with the Cavaliers.

Andre Miller led Cleveland with 23 points off the bench, making 9-of-12 shots. Bob Sura scored 18 points, but shot just 6-for-15, and Shawn Kemp added 12 points and 13 rebounds. Kemp was 5-for-15 from the floor.

Brevin Knight missed all six of his shots for the Cavaliers, who lost for the third time in four games.

"It's my job to have the team reday to play so I take the blame," said Cleveland coach Randy Wittman. "We can't have a couple of players take the night off and expect to win in this league. We had 16 turnovers at halftime and we were careless. You can't say we were concentrating and ready to play."

Laettner and Stackhouse each scored 10 points in the first period when the Pistons shot 54.5 percent (12-for-22) and held a 33-26 lead.

"It's another real good win for us," said Detroit coach Alvin Gentry. "We're finally starting to find the consistency that we need to win games. We got out on them early because of our defense."

Detroit extended the margin to 47-31 when Michael Curry made two free throws with 5:07 remaining in the second. The Pistons maintained the lead and were ahead, 59-42, at the break.

The Pistons pushed the lead to 23 points when Hill had a layup to make it 74-51 with 5:54 left in the third.
