Game Story

SACRAMENTO, California (Ticker) -- The Sacramento Kings are rolling sevens, while the New Jersey Nets continue to roll in the wrong direction.

Chris Webber posted his ninth career triple-double to lead the Kings to their first seven-game winning streak in more than 21 years with a 105-92 rout of the floundering and injury-plagued New Jersey Nets, who have dropped seven in a row.

Webber had 26 points, a career-high 22 rebounds and 10 assists for the NBA's first triple-double of the season. He sparked a 25-9 second-quarter run that staked Sacramento to a 60-50 lead at halftime that it did not surrender.

"It just shows that we have been able to do some things we couldn't before," Webber said. "But then again, we have to be realistic. We have some tough games coming up and there is going to be some setbacks and we need to make sure we're prepared and keep our focus.

"It feels good. But it's been 10 games with 72 more to go. That's a long time, so hopefully we can keep it going and keep playing well."

Lawrence Funderburke collected a season-high 18 points off the bench and Nick Anderson scored 16 for the Kings, who had not won seven consecutive games since February 2-17, 1977, when they were still playing in Kansas City.

"It shows how unselfish we are," Funderburke said. "Look at Chris, he could have had 30-something points but he had 10 assists. If we learn to keep playing together but knock the teams out and not let them back in and have a chance to win."

Sacramento remained unbeaten in the United States and has not lost since a 114-101 setback to Minnesota on November 6 in Japan. The Kings' 8-1 start is the best in franchise history.

"Obviously it is nice to get this win," Sacramento coach Rick Adelman said. "We have a lot of talent on our team and we have a chance to beat a lot of people when we play the way we are capable of."

Stephon Marbury scored 31 points for New Jersey, which is off to the worst start in franchise history, losing 10 of its first 11 games.

To make matters worse, the Nets again were hit by the injury bug. Kerry Kittles, Scott Burrell and Lucious Harris missed tonight's game, while Kendall Gill, Jim McIlvaine and Sherman Douglas were forced to leave with an assortment of injuries.

"(McIlvaine) looks like he has a very severe eye injury. Lucious took himself out, Sherman stayed in with a sprained ankle and we're down to eight (players)," Nets coach Don Casey said.

New Jersey slipped to 0-5 on the road.

"It's time to look in the mirror and take some pride and know that someone is trying to go out there and showboat on you," Douglas said. "We have to earn respect because they are only doing what we let them do."

Keith Van Horn had 12 points and 17 rebounds for the Nets, who shot just 39 percent (39-of-100) and were outrebounded, 57-46.

Douglas had 13 points before leaving with a twisted ankle in the third quarter, moments after Gill went into the locker room with a cut under his left eye. McIlvaine suffered a bruise to his right eye in the second quarter and did not return.

Webber was 11-of-18 from the floor and had four blocks for the Kings, who shot 52 percent (44-of-85) and went over 100 points for the eighth time in nine games.

Corliss Williamson poured in 13 points for Sacramento, which pulled ahead for good, 42-41, on Predrag Stojakovic's layup with 6:16 remaining in the third quarter.

Darrick Martin hit a 3-pointer on the Kings' ensuing trip and the rout was on. Webber sank a 17-footer with 23 seconds left in the half to make it 60-48.

Webber's dunk with 2:34 remaining in the third quarter gave Sacramento its biggest lead, 85-67.
