Game Story

CLEVELAND (Ticker) -- Bob Sura scored 12 of his 29 points in a decisive 23-7 run that closed the first half and helped the Cleveland Cavaliers to a 107-93 victory over the lowly Chicago Bulls.

Sura had 24 points in the first half and finished with a career-high five 3-pointers as Cleveland handed the Bulls (1-15) their 10th straight loss. Corey Benjamin had 15 points as Chicago fell to 0-10 on the road.

Sura came within a point of matching his career high and Shawn Kemp scored 21 points for the Cavaliers, who have won four of their last six games and have taken the last five meetings with Chicago.

"This was a good win for us," Cleveland coach Randy Wittman said. "Sometimes these types of games are tough to play. Bobby Sura had a big spurt for us at the end of the first half. Brevin Knight had a great full game for us."

The score was tied, 35-35, with 4:20 left in the first half when Brevin Knight hit a pair of free throws to give Cleveland the lead for good and start the decisive run.

Sura followed with a layup that was countered by Randy Brown's jumper. Kemp hit a five-footer for a 41-37 lead, then Sura nailed a 3-pointer, Knight sank a 13-footer and Sura made a layup to stretch the lead to 11.

Will Perdue hit a free throw and traded baskets with Danny Ferry as Chicago closed within 50-40 with 1:22 remaining. Sura hit a jumper and a 3-pointer, Benjamin knocked down a jumper for Chicago and Ferry hit a three-pointer just before the halftime buzzer to build Cleveland's lead to 58-42.

"I got on a roll there," Sura said. "I got some easy baskets and it made me feel good. We got a win and we need to win a few in a row to establish ourselves."

The Bulls got it within 79-67 after three quarters as Sura went scoreless, but never challenged in the fourth. The score was tied, 27-27, after one quarter.

Chicago played without rookie forward Elton Brand, the first pick in the draft. Brand is suffering from a right hip pointer and was joined on the bench in the second quarter by guard Hersey Hawkins, who injured his calf. Earlier in the day, Chicago placed forward Toni Kukoc on the injured list.

"It's difficult not playing without the whole group out there," Brown said. "You just can't compete for 48 minutes on the road like that."

Cleveland was missing forward Lamond Murray, who had the flu.

The Cavaliers shot 49 percent (38-of-77) from the field and held a 40-35 rebounding edge, thanks to Andrew DeClerq, who had 12 boards. Sura and Kemp added seven rebounds apiece and Sura had six assists. Knight added 18 points and Wesley Person 14.

"Their guard play was the difference," Chicago coach Tim Floyd said. "Knight, Sura and Person know how to create for each other. We really struggled defensively."

Chicago shot 45 percent (37-of-82) from the floor as Perdue had 13 points and Brown added 12.
