Game Story

MIAMI (Ticker) -- Ray Allen drained a fadeaway jumper with 1.7 seconds remaining, lifting the Milwaukee Bucks to a dramatic 96-95 victory over the Miami Heat.

Dan Majerle converted a layup with 17 seconds left to give the Heat a 95-94 lead. Following a pair of timeouts, Milwaukee set up Allen for the winning shot. He received the ball at the top of the foul line and dribbled to the left baseline, where he swished a fadeaway jumper over the outstretched arm of 6-11 P.J. Brown.

"I was just trying to get the ball and make a play for my teammates," Allen said. "I wasn't supposed to necessarily shoot the ball, but I'm glad I did."

"We switched hard on the play and P.J had a hand up on him," Heat coach Pat Riley said. "But he made a great shot."

Rookie Anthony Carter nearly gave the Heat a thrilling win but his desperation heave from half-court grazed the rim as time expired.

Allen finished with 28 points and Sam Cassell added 20 for the Bucks, who won at Orlando on Wednesday and captured their third straight road contest overall.

Lenard finished with a season-high 29 points and Alonzo Mourning had a big game with 21 and 18 rebounds for Miami, which suffered its season-high third straight loss.

"It was an up-and-down game," added Riley. "We're just not making timely stops at the end of the game. That's all there is to it."

Cassell drilled a 16-footer with just over two minutes remaining to give the Bucks a seemingly safe 92-85 advantage. But using their defensive prowess and the shooting of Lenard, the Heat got back in it.

Lenard nailed a 3-pointer and Majerle made a layup off a steal to cut the lead to two before Ervin Johnson hit a short jumper for a 94-90 lead with 83 seconds to go.

Contnuing his barrage from beyond the arc, Lenard sank another 3-pointer to cut the Bucks lead to one with 64 seconds remaining. One of the team's most effective long-range shooters, Lenard made 7-of-10 shots from 3-point range.

While Lenard was a factor from the outside, the Heat lost their presence on the inside in the fourth quarter as Mourning did not score over the final 12 minutes.

The Bucks trailed by five points entering the fourth quarter before quickly tying the game on a jumper by Tim Thomas and a 3-pointer from Allen. They took their first lead of the period, 83-82, with 6:16 to play after Vinny Del Negro hit a 10-footer.

Del Negro added 15 points for the Bucks, who shot 46 percent (37-of-81) while holding Miami to 40 percent (35-of-88).

Lenard and Mourning combined for 32 points in the first half, helping the Heat to a slim 49-47 advantage.
