Game Story

MILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- Glenn Robinson scored 13 of his 24 points in the fourth quarter as the Milwaukee Bucks cooled off the Indiana Pacers, 109-95, for their third straight victory.

Working primarily against Jalen Rose, Robinson fueled a pair of runs. The first broke open a tie game and gave the Bucks the lead for good. The second sealed the win as Milwaukee ended a 10-game losing streak against Indiana that included a sweep in the first round of last season's playoffs.

Robinson shot 9-of-21 from the field but did most of damage late after a third-quarter benching by coach George Karl.

"I didn't do much early and I knew when coach pulled me in the third it was 'cause I was forcing shots," Robinson said. "It really helped to sit and watch and get a feel from the side. When I went back in, I knew I had to bounce back and play a big fourth quarter."

Danny Manning scored a season-high 19 points and Ray Allen added 16 for the Bucks, who found a way to slow down the Pacers. Indiana had taken eight of its last nine games, including a win Friday that stopped Utah's seven-game winning streak.

"This is the way we need to keep playing," Robinson said. "It's finally starting to come together and now we need to take this on the road and keep going like this."

"I don't believe our bench can play any better," Karl said. "Danny Manning did an excellent job. The bench is the major reason we won tonight."

Reggie Miller scored 21 points and Rose added 19 for the Pacers, who had not lost to the Bucks since March 16, 1997. Indiana allowed Milwaukee to shoot 50 percent (42-of-84) and committed 20 turnovers.

"We didn't convert back on defense," Pacers coach Larry Bird said. "We couldn't get any good looks. We didn't match up coming back on defense."

Two free throws by Miller, who made just 6-of-15 shots, gave the Pacers an 83-83 tie with 10:48 to play. Robinson responded with a 10-footer, a free throw and a 3-pointer and an 18-footer from Danny Manning gave Milwaukee a 91-83 lead with 8:18 to play.

A basket by Dale Davis, who had 18 points and 15 rebounds, cut the deficit to 93-87 before Robinson took over again. He made a 3-pointer and two foul shots around a tip-in by Scott Williams as the Bucks widened the lead to 100-87 with 5:39 left. Indiana got no closer than 10 points thereafter.

"I just got a couple nice shots early in the fourth, some 3s and some post-ups and the ball finally dropped for me," Robinson said.

Williams and Sam Cassell scored 15 points apiece for the Bucks, who made 7-of-13 from behind the arc. Williams pulled down eight rebounds and Cassell handed out six assists.

"I try to bring energy to the game," said Williams, who has flourished since being installed as the starting center. "This was a team that beat us six times last year. It was personal."

Mark Jackson had 15 points and 10 assists for the Pacers, who shot 46 percent (35-of-76) and made 10-of-26 3-pointers. Center Rik Smits was held to four points in 23 foul-plagued minutes.

Miller scored 10 points in the first quarter as Indiana grabbed a 32-25 lead. Manning scored 10 points in the second period as Milwaukee roared to a 56-52 halftime advantage and the Bucks held an 80-77 edge entering the final period.

"They executed better than us at times," Miller admitted. "We got off to a good start, but we hit some lulls early in the third and later in the fourth. We let them have too much life. We let too many of their role players have too much life."
